I tried these last night and we had lots of fun with my girls and only one broke. If you use the small cake decorating for the hole (yes you need to spray them also. After they have cooled down and crack the sides then you are ready to pull the decorating tips off the ornament. You need to light a match inside the hole for about 5-6 seconds and use a napkin and gently pull it out because it will be a little hot and you don't want to burn yourself. The only thing is you have to be very careful or they will crack. These are great for kids to give as a gift on there last day of school.

Letting them cool all the way is a big mistake. They break getting them out. I waited a few minutes after coming out of the oven and took them out while still pretty warm. At this point, they are still bendable and workable. My daughter and I have made several and she even made some for her teachers gifts. It takes breaking a few and practicing when to "handle" them coming out of the oven, but it is worth it. Thanks and good luck!!

My friend and I made the Ornaments last night 12/18 but didn't have very good luck. most of them cracked while taking them out of the cookie cutter. We also couldn't get the tips out and when we worked to remove them the hole ornament would brake. Have any suggestion on our problems.

...until I mastered the recipe. I found that I had to spray the cookie cutters each time is made a new batch. The decorating tips drove me crazy until the light came on and I got a little creative. I filled the cutters with the candies, after I took them out of the oven I stuck the decorating tips in them and let them cool completely....oh, make sure you spray the tips too. This is a wonderful idea, and fun to do with children.

I made this recipe with my 6&1/2 year old son and my 4 year old daughter.Although not all the ornaments came out perfect ,the kids had a great time filling the cookie cutters with the hard candy and then watching them in the oven as they melted.Taking them out may be a bit of a challenge but I found that the ornaments from the more elaborate cutters were more difficult to take out than a snowman cutterfor example that has rounded shape. So I guess next time I'll stick to the more simple cutters to facilitate the process.Other than that it is a fun and simple recipe.

Very cute idea but out of 8 ornaments only one survived. Trying to pop them out of the cookie cutters was very difficult. They cracked almost every time. Any suggestions to make this easier and successful? I used Life Savers and thought Jolly Ranchers might work better next time.
Cute idea and would love to give it another shot but I need help with any tips and tricks. The tips for the holes didn't stay up, they fell into the candy so I took toothpicks and layed them across the top to try and anchor the tip so it wouldn't fall over. Please help with any ideas!! Diane of NJ
