Made this Christmas eve to sit overnight in the fridge..Next morning..it was smelling great in the oven and even better to eat. I did not use leeks, but onions and mixed up the cheeses..Wonderful casserole and so easy to make. I think what makes this really special is using a french bread instead of loaf bread like some of the old-timey receipes call for. Try this, you will not be dissappointed.

Great spicey seasoning, peper jack cheese, leeks, set this dish apart from every other one on table. Use good bread.

Wow! What a breakfast this made for Christmas morning. It's an easy dish to prepare (it really did only take about 20 minutes of prep time the night before. The flavors are terrific (although there is a fair amount of spice which might not be great for little people - so you might need to sub the pepper jack cheese on the top. I made the recipe as is, and will be making this next time company comes around for brunch.

Tip: Make the baked apples that were featured in this episode. When the juice from the apples meld with the casserole, it's just divine!

This dish was wonderful and perfect to prepare on Christmas Eve and enjoy on Christmas morning. Full of flavor and just enough heat with the red pepper and cayenne. I have never cooked with leaks before and they were just the right compliment. This truly is my favorite egg dish.

Made this for our Christmas Breakfast and was impressed. I was worried that it had too much leek in it. Also I used the entire baggete and was worried it would be dry due to the extra bread. I did increase the milk amount to 3/4 c. and the cream to 1/2 c. I used cheddar and parmasan since I forgot to buy pepperjack. And added mushrooms (sauteed with the leeks. I took the advice of others and covered it with foil while it baked for 45 min and uncovered it for the last 10 min. My grandma who isnt a big cheese fan loved it and my picky 20 month old actually sat down to eat it. That's all the confirmation I need. This will be a keeper.

I made this with only one change. I used regular yellow onions instead of leek. This turned out beautiful. Just the right spice and not dry at all. So flavorful. I will continue to make this and use it as my favorite breakfast casserole. For the one review that said it was not diet. You could make it vegetarian like another who rated it and put lots of veggies instead of the sausage. It would be great like that. I might even try it.

If you read a recipe and DO NOT LIKE IT then just do the mature thing and pass it up. There certainly is no reason to diss something you will never ever try! Once in a great while it's good to try something sinful and it WON'T KILL YOU ! All in moderation Theodore.....

To the last reviewer, "Give it up, no one has forced you to eat this, but if you had you too would have given it five stars." Listen, no one makes this type of food on a regular basis, but on a holiday morning, while the coffee is brewing, there is nothing better than the sweet aroma of a SAUSAGE and EGG casserole. This is a keeper. This will be on my breakfast table Christmas morning, and my family will love every bite.

Let us see: pork sausage, cups of cheese, heavy cream. Right! A person's veins would rapidly clog w/ cholesterol and provoke a heart attack. Got anything healthy or is this the Neely's sneak attack upon healthy food.

I tried this as a vegetarian dish - using soy sausage crumbles. Thanks to the advice here, I put in a bit more liquid and covered it in baking. Turned out FABULOUS! I made it for a work potluck. It was a hit with my fellow teachers that didn't realize it was vegetarian!

    Thanks!
