The broccoli really lightens up the mashed potates. A number of people have mentioned the different kinds of cheese, bacon or garlic that they added but that is the beauty of this recipe. You can add whatever extra's you like on your potatos and it just gets better. Kids love to add their own toppings so my idea is to put out some bacon bits, shredded cheese, sour cream, etc for each person to top their own like a baked potato bar but you have the nutritional benefit of the broccoli already mixed in. Thanks!

Thanks for the wonderful recipe. We all enjoyed this very much. I have 3 young kids, my 9 year old had 3 servings, my 7 year old didn't like it but she doesn't like mashed potatoes, and my 5 year old (who doesn't like broccoli had 2 servings and said he loved it. The only addition I made was to add about 1/2 a cup of shredded cheddar to the milk mixture. I love your show too!

My family knows me for reading the recipe & then spinning it into unrecognizable goodness..... so they assumed I invented this....but no... I DID confess!
I will make this again for sure ...my twist was to add a little happy blob of goat cheese on the finished product and cook it in chicken broth.
I also like the bacon addition someone else did but "hello".. bacon & potato.. it's a marvelous thing!
Thank you Neeleys! (you tasty creatures!!

I was a little reluctant to try the combination of potatoes and broccoli. It turned out to be great! I only made half of the serving seeing as how I was only serving 4 people and everyone cleaned their plates! Will do again!

Made these yesterday after watching the episode on Food Network, and they were great. They went very well with my BBQ chicken. I did add @4oz. Cream cheese to the heavy cream and butter though.
I may be crazy, but I'd bet the leftovers with an egg, flour, and minced onion would make some outstanding potato pancakes!

I want to say that I'm not one to play by the rules when it comes to food so I made a few adjustments. For healthier reasons, for flavor I add chicken broth and sour cream to my potatoes after draining. I cook about three slices of bacon and then pour off the excess fat and then saute either shallots or red onion(finely chopped. The bacon and onions are added to the potatoes, some finely shredded cheese is optional. I also add kosher salt to the water which helps with seasoning the potatoes and broccoli. Overall, I liked the concept of combinig the two. Definitely didn't have any leftovers!

My imagination would not have taken me to combine potatoes and broccoli. Very delicious.
