The roasted tomatoes add that earthy flavor to the soup.
As for the review by "None of" - it was in poor taste to bash the Neely's and the Food Network by posting very harsh comments about both. Also, a couple of posts noted they didn't know when add the tomatoes. If you read the recipe all the way through, it is toward the end when you add the roasted tomatoes. Come on peeps, let's get it together. Great recipe and I think the Neely's are fun, hard working and have a great relationship and as for Food Network - you ROCK!!!!!!!

Laila sweetie, if you want to post a comment on the internet it might be a good idea to spell check before you send your messages.

I did love this recipe, but I also "doctored" it up a bit. I had more people eating than I though so I added a can of stewed tomatoes, another cup of cream and a little more tomato paste. Also, I LOVE spicy stuff, but you may want to put in half the cayenne that the recipe calls for because my nose was running and my mouth was on fiiiiire! It was still very good, but for those who do not like spicy or if you have kids you might want to put in half or just a dash. Either way, it's a delicious creamy tomato soup and it's great. I love the Neely's and I love their recipes!!

I have found that the Neely's have some really awful recipes but this one is by far the worst. I am always trying new things and actually dumped this down the drain and ordered pizza. Shame on Food Network! Not only is the awful, but so are the Neelys! They are way over the top. Never again!

I was looking for a good tomato soup recipe and this is it. It is easy to make and tastes delicious. I did alter it a tiny bit. I reduced the amout of cayenne pepper after reading the other reviews and am glad I did. I only put 1/4 tsp. in instead of 1/2. Also I didn't have a immerson blender so I put all the tomatoes and some chopped basil and blended them together then added it to the soup base.

Wonderful with fresh bread and some cheddar cheese. The cayenne pepper really made the soup. We halved the recipe, and it was the perfect amount for two people. We will definitely make this soup again.

I followed the recipe exactly except I omitted the cayenne. (too hot for little tongues It was fantastic. The roasted tomatoes were sweet and flavorful and after melding on the stove top for a a while the flavors were awesome. I will definitely make this soup again!

I made this soup for a dinner party. Very easy to follow recipe. Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. Even my 3 yr. old Grand daughter Mellie, liked it. Very subtle spice.
