I have tried many of Nigella's recipes and find them excellently versatile. You should try the apple pie made with cheese pastry. It doesnt taste of cheese but the small amount of cheese in the pastry compliments the apples very well. You can change ingredients and i have even swapped the flour in some recipes for gluten free flour, although you will find that you do need to add extra water to gluten free flour.
    Happy cooking everyone.

This cake is a family (and friends favourite. I have made it numerous times and I once had orders to make three for a wedding reception! Whenever we have a family get together I make one and it disappears very quickly. We usually eat it slightly warmed up with ice cream or fresh cream. I have to admit that I have adapted the recipe slightly by substituting the dark 70% cocoa chocolate for a milk chocolate. .

I only gave this 2 stars because the fudge icing was very good. The cake itself was a total disappointment. Even my two kids didn't have more than the first piece. Very bland. I would make a box mix before I would make this again. We ended up picking all the icing off the cake then throwing the cake away!

I decided to make this with my brother for a nice dessert after dinner but it came out kind of a dissapointment. When we put the cake in the oven we made the icing. It turned out superb! It was nice and creamy and it was nice and chocolatety (I would deffiently reccomend for all chocolate lovers. This icing is incredible. But the cake tasted kind of sugary. even though I followed the recipie EXACTLY how it was written. if you were to make this I would reccomend lowering the powdred sugar in the cake.

I was expecting this cake to be super moist and tasty and, honestly, the end result fell flat for us. I followed the directions precisely and had high expectations. I have to agree with another commenter - seems that the reliance is on the frosting for the flavor. Won't make this one again.

the icing was good, but the cake itself tasted like chocolate muffin. I could see how some people would like this, but it did not go over so well for my clan.

My husband wanted a chocolate cake and I was trying to find one that wouldn't be too dry. I looked up this recipe and thought I'd give it a try. First of all this was my first cake including icing that I has completely made from scratch. (before at least some boxed or canned items had been used It was very easy to do, my 5 year old daughter was able to help me through the entire process, and the end result was amazing! The cake was light and fluffy but so maist and gooey that it was almost still like fudge. It was great!. I would deffinately recomend this to anyone who wants a moist, chocolatey, easy cake! It is deffinately going to go in my recipe book for many future uses!
