I made this cake on Father's Day for my dad. Making the cake was easy with the chocolate syrup I added a extra 1/2 cup of boiling water to make the batter extra wet, like this recipe is. It cooked well as we'll the frosting set after a hour. Apparently nigella said to use the best quality dark chocolate I was about to add milk chocolate but I saw on nigellas website that adding milk chocolate won't set the icing. Anyway it was delicious and chocolatey.

I was uncertain about making this cake for the first time for a dinner party, but Nigella has never disappointed me with a dessert, and this recipe is no exception. I was panicked about the frosting when it hadn't set up after an hour, but 20 minutes later it was perfect. If I was making this cake for only adults, I would have substituted some of the water for coffee/espresso, but as it is it was perfect for the whole family. The cake was moist and flavorful, the frosting creamy and rich. Lovely.

I watched Nigella make this on her show and thought this would be a good recipe to try. I followed the recipe exactly and once baked, it tasted like it was missing something.

The crumb was tender and moist, but the flavor of the cake was just flat. Although, not being a fan of super-sweet frostings the recipe for the frosting was stellar and is highly recommended.

Wow! This came out exactly as she described and how it looked on the show. I made it for my teenage boys and they are devouring it (as hers did. Cooked in 25 minutes, not 30. I added a tsp. of espresso powder (a la Ina and I thinked that boosted the chocolate flavor even more. The crumb was perfect - light but not crumbling all over. We couldn't wait for the icing to set up, but I think by morning, it will be perfect. I did wait the hour as she directed before putting it on the cake and it was perfectly spreadable. I will also add a pinch of salt next time. I'm always searching for the perfect chocolate cake and this is one of them.
