I watched the show that this recipe was in before going to sleep and even dreamed of it. I made it as soon as I woke up and wasn't disappointed. Use the full amount of all ingredients, soak the bread for 5 mins each side and make sure that you cook the toast fully on each side. It was superb and I will be making this over and over again! As a Gluten Free eater I was able to substitute my gluten free millet & flax bread and felt like I was eating a forbidden food. Thank you Nigella!

THIS RECIPE SHOULD COME WITH A WARNING - ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IS PROHIBITED BY ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21!!!!

I got this recipe out of Women's World magazine and since my 17 month old daughter likes French Toast, I thought I would try it (who doesn't like a doughnut?!?!?.
After making this, I thought I should try it first to see how the flavor was before giving to my daughter. It's a good thing I did!!! The alcohol flavor in this was overwhelming!
I had to look at the recipe again to make sure I added the ingredients correctly...I did.
4 tsps of Vanilla is WAY TOO MUCH for this recipe.
If I ever made this again (which I probably won't I would use 3 eggs and 2 tsps of vanilla.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RECIPE FOR CHILDREN THE WAY THAT IT IS CURRENTLY WRITTEN!!!!

I made this french toast after my husband got home from work one morning. I am always looking for easy recipes since we have 2 little kids. Everyone loved the berry topping! It was so fast and easy. Everyone wants me to add it into our regular rotation!

Tell me Nigella have you ever soaked bread for 5 minutes? Obviously not! The vanilla made it taste like sour milk. Delete the vanilla and add cinammon and sugar and only soak bread for 3 seconds per side and you have the classic all american recipe for french toast. Sorry, try again. I may be just a little bitter for wasting all my ingredients. I followed your recipe only to have to call my dad and use his recipe. Thanks, but no thanks.

This was so quick & easy. I didn't soak it for the full 5 minutes and I put a little bit of cinnamon in with the sugar and it was wonderful!!

I saw Nigella's show this morning and had all of the fixings to make this dish. Boy was I glad. I added other berries to the "jam" mixture and it was so yummy. Thank you to a previous reviewer for the recipe for the "jam". It was omitted from Nigella's french toast recipe.

This was pretty good. After i soaked my french toast i used the little bit of the egg mixture i had left to soak another piece. I liked the one that i didnt soak as long. The one that had been soaked for the right amount of time was a little too eggy for me and i wouldn't like having as much vanilla. All in all it was pretty good though. If i made it again i would have less vanilla and soak it less.

One of the first things things I learned to cook was traditional french toast. So, when I saw this show, I was very excited to try to make this. I made it for a friend and I for brunch and it was exactly the comfort food we were looking for and it's so easy. Thanks for a great recipe.

I'm not a big maple fan so the suger coating and strawberry sause is a great option. I made with homemade bread, supper yummy!
