HOW QUICK, EASY, AND ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS THIS RECIPE WAS. I USED A LOAF OF LOUISIANA FRENCH BREAD SLICED THICK AND LET IT SOAK UP THE GREAT EGG MIXTURE. CRISPY ON THE OUTSIDE, SOFT ON THE INSIDE. MMM GOOD, ESPECIALLY WITH LOUISIANA STRAWBERRIES I FROZE FROM THE SUMMER. THAWED IN THE MICROWAVE AND WHILE SLIGHTLY WARM PUREED THEM WITH THE POWDERED SUGAR..WITH A SLICE OF BACON AND HOT LOUISIANA COFFEE....MY L.S.U. DAUGHTER SLOWLY WOKE UP ON A SLEEPY, AFTER CHRISTMAS SATURDAY,WALKED DOWN THE STAIRS INTO THE KITCHEN AND WAS GREETED WITH THIS SWEET LATE BREAKFAST. THANKS FOR THE IDEA. I WAS THE "GREATEST MOM EVER" THIS SATURDAY. KATIE LEITHEAD -LAKE CHARLES, LA

I actually used my favorite Smucker's Red Raspberry Jam. I just heated it up in the microwave and poured it over the doughnut. YUMMY!!!!

I was making french toast for my family and did a test piece of this...we ended up making the whole batch this way. This is a simple twist that tastes amazing! I added a little cinnamon with the sugar.

... I don't know if it was because I actually soaked the bread for as long as the recipe suggested or the amount of vanilla, but it was so, so, good!

Texture's best fresh - so crisp outside but puffy and tasty!

I made this recipe mainly out of curiosity. The doughnuts were delicious - my husband and I devoured them! Thanks Nigella!

This french toast is to die for! The Strawberry sauce is as follows. Handful of strawberries in a blender. Add powder sugar to taste (1/4 C or less depending on how sweet your strawberries are. Add a little squeeze of fresh lemon, blend. I am going to use raspberries next time, because thats my husbands favorite.

We loved the french toast but I couldn't remember the amounts of ingredients for the strawberry sauce after I watched the show. Suprised to not find the sauce with the recipe. Does anyone remember the recipe for the sauce???????????

We make french toast often and serve it with a red current sauce but the addition of the sugar was wonderful and it did taste like a good jelly doughnut. It was nice not to have to leave home to go for a doughnut. This is a keeper.

It's nutty how much this tastes like a doughnut. I was out of milk and actually substituted a bit of sour cream and a bit of yoghurt. It was terrific. No sauce needed.
