Some harsh reviews... but I like this for a good, quick 10 minute meal that's comforting - kind of meat-and-potatoey!

Bland, boring, underseasoned. If you had to add something like horseradish to make it taste good, don't give the recipe 5 stars.

the white bean mash was delicious. I'm a newbie vegetarian and looking for new ways to cook beans and this was a nice surprise.

I had these with some small lamb chops that I had in the fridge. The lemon went very nicely with them.
I think some sauted real onions rather than spring onions might go nicer in the bean mash though. Although it was all very tasty and seriously easy.

My husband died 6 weeks ago and I have found it is very hard finding good recipes that can be reduced to serve one that do not ruin the taste when you reduce the ingredients. I always loved cooking for my husband and making great food that we could both enjoy after a long day at work. This recipe was fast, delicious and very easy. The beans were terrific. The only change I made was to use garlic chile oil. I used all of the garlic and all the zest of the lemon with one can of beans. Putting lemon juice on the steak was really delicious. The whole thing took me less then 10 minutes to make. Thank you Nigella. This is a winner.

We had the white bean mash tonight paired with Tyler Florence's pork shoulder "pernil" with cilantro-citrus adobo. Wow! It was a good combination. We tend to like our garlic to be a bit on the heavy side, so I added two more cloves than called for and it still wasn't overpowering with navy beans. We were very pleased with this quick and easy addition and are looking forward to trying different white beans for our mash.

Great for a quick dinner that doesn't come out of the microwave. I cut down on dishes by using the same pan, just wiping it out after the beans. Sometimes I use basil oil, and both salt and pepper on the steak.

Since both my husband and myself are so busy, this recipe has become a bi-weekly staple. I get whatever thin-cut steak is available: all work absolutely fine, just don't cook them too long! The lemon juice is the perfect touch. I've found that the large "butter beans" (large white lima beans are the perfect mash--I have never liked lima beans, but this recipe is perfect (don't forget the garlic & lemon!.
