Who cares if it is Hungarian or not. As for the person who claims this is basically a lame recipe must be really creative and should try out for the Next Food Network Star. Sometimes recipes are more of a concept and a blend of different ingredients that are really simple. I would have never thought of cream cheese, cherry jelly and rye bread. I was surprised at how good this tasted. I make this several times a week to have as a snack at work. I am going to try some other flavors of jam/jelly like Lisa suggested. It is a nice change from peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The only thing Hungarian, the only part that Hungary plays, is the Black Cherry Jam, which is not as sweet as other black cherry jams. I don't seem to be able to get it here in Louisville, but I will keep looking!

It's a delicious sandwich, and I just wonder if some of the people commenting on this website even watch the shows! She admits that it is not authentic Hungarian food!

First of all, this is NOT Hungarian. C'mon, use Austrian bread. HELLO! And Jason, get over yourself. The person you think was rude, was honest. I don't come to a respected sight to be told to smear creme cheese on bread. . Get Real. Nigella is not Hungarian, the Armenian reviewer endorsed the sandwich and we're told to use Austrian bread. I can't say enough on how stunned I am by this recipe. And this would be a recipe in a child's cookbook- nowhere else.

I searched "Nigella" on this site and have found that this recipe is #1. All comments are about one year old. This is stale info and is obviously being poorly monitored. Not to mention there is little info on this show in general.

Please at least let her and her PR folks manage her content on this site as the FN is doing a poor job of it. I'd like to see one episode on in the evening during the week, if possible. Surely she has newer stuff. But there is no update I can find on FN either.

    Please update your website FN!

This sandwich is delicious and an old time favorite. I took Jason's advice and used the reduced cream cheese. The person who signed in with the nasty comment signed it annoymous. What a chicken and they should get their head outta there butt. Nigella does indeed ROCK !!!!!

I am Hungarian, born and raised there... This recipe has nothing to do with Hungarian, I can tell you that much.
If you want to try out some real Hungarian sandwich, try the following!!!
Take a nice slice of fresh white bread. Smear some good ol' pork or duck lard on it.(duck is way better Sprinkle it with some salt and paprika powder, and serve it. Best with tomatoes(seasoned with ground black pepper and salt or some sweet white peppers. Now this is a HUNGARIAN sandwich Nigella!!!!

This 'Hungarian Sandwich' is my old 'Cream Cheese and Jelly Sandwich' that I used to eat as a child whenever I wasn't in the mood for peanut butter and jelly. My dad used to make it for me for lunch, sometimes with apricot jelly, or strawberry, raspberry, or yes, even cherry jelly. I especially loved how soft and flavorful the cream cheese would get after sitting at room temperature for a few hours in my lunch sack. I always loved it on pumpernickel bread, but sourdough was always a tasty alternative. And no, I'm not Hungarian; I'm Armenian, born in New York, and at 44 years old, I can tell you this wonderful sandwich has been around for many, many years. So glad Nigella introduced you all to it!

Come on, bread, cream cheese, and jam? Don't waste our time on "recipes" like this. What's next, bread, peanut butter, and jelly?
