It was probably my fault because I didn't use cake flour.. But the cupcakes were dry. And I didn't care for the frosting. I won't be making these again.

I saw this episode and thought I would try it. The cupcakes were delcious!! And the icing took me back to what my mom used to make! It was so easy and quick. Another great recipe that was brought to us by Paula!! :

I prepared these cupcakes the other evening because the recipe was sounded great even though the preparation was a little different. I halved the recipe and must have done something wrong. I am not blaming anyone other than myself - don't get me wrong. That is why I gave it 4 stars - so please tell me what I did wrong. I know when baking you need to be accurate so in halving the recipe I must have done something wrong. The cupcakes took a long to get done and some of them in the center of the cupcake tin were not done and they did not rise. And yes I used baking powder and not soda. Maybe it is the oven temperature at 325? Any other suggestions. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in the kitchen but this has me stumped, suggestions? Or just make the entire recipe again?

The cake part of these cupcakes is the best! Very moist, light and fluffy. This batter rises alot, so you only need to fill the cupcake liners 1/2 to 2/3 full. It easily made 29 cupcakes. The icing recipe makes more that you need and is VERY sugary. You can probably get by with 1/2 the icing recipe and less sugar.

I wondered what "old fashioned cupcakes" would taste like. They are rich, buttery & delicious. I will definitely use this recipe to make a variety of different flavored cupcakes!

I couldn't wait to try this recipe after seeing the show. Due to the unusual order of mixing the cupcake ingredients, I forgot to add the sugar (I'm a good cook, really!. While the first batch was cooking, my husband "tested" the waiting-to-be-cooked batter. Yuck, so I dumped all of the batter back into the bowl and added the sugar. Since the batter in the oven was warm (but not really cooking yet the batter texture and thickness changed. Despite my mistake, they were delicious! Crispy on top with an "eggy" taste. They remind me of the cupcakes my grandmom used to make when I was a kid. I halved the frosting recipe since I couldn't imagine needing 8 cups of sugar for 24 cupcakes and it was plenty. The frosting was very sweet and buttery, but in a good way.
