plvminda...this recipe cannot be "exactly the same" if the baking powder is different. Baking is an exact science therefore the number of base recipes is finite, it's the additives which set a recipe apart and nobody uses butter the way Paula does.

I thought it a fabulous base recipe for a vanilla cupcake, can't wait to make them again with my own additions.

I did not make cup cakes. I used a rectangular pan. I do agree with the comments about
the forsting being to much. I made to cakes and had enough frosting for both. Next time will
use less butter and confectioners sugar. Other than that I thought they were good and easy for
the first time baking from scrath

Good but not great. I thought the taste was that of a sugar cookie dough; which is fine...but once you've tasted a Sprinkles cupcake you know that not all cupcakes are alike. I am going to experiment to see if I can replicate the Sprinkles cupcake mix -- I'm pretty sure that I can. But with these cupcakes, I was a little surprised that they weren't better. Btw, you do not need 8 cups of conf. sugar -- you only need 4!

I baked this twice already and both times they came out PERFECT! Of course, I modified it a little bit by lessening the sugar. For the icing, I used Martha Stewart's buttercream icing and just dab a little bit on top. Heaven..!
For those who claims to be professional bakers and think this recipe is awful, well I guess they're not following the directions right. LOL!!

    This is for dmone comment:
How come that this cake is Terrible, and did not rise?, and Sticky and not tasty?..
When you say did not Rise up means that you Add too much of liquid on your mixture that's why it is sticky, when you say not Tasty???.. i must be tasty because you have your 2 cups Sugar.. for sure you do make something wrong in your mixture,..

My daughter went to college in Savannah, GA so I discovered these cupcakes at the "Back in the Day" bakery 5 years ago and loved them. I was ecstatic when I learned the recipe was available on TV. The first time I tried it, everyone loved them! They have the most delicate texture and flavor. I agree with the comments that it makes too much icing and I also add less milk to make the frosting thicker as it is at the bakery. Even my 18 year old son made these when I was out of town and said they turned out great. It was the first time he had baked anything from scratch. Also, he just asking me to make these for a cast party this week. All his friends love them too. They are the best.

The comments that say "I bake for a living", or "don't tell me I did something wrong, because I'm a professional baker"... well they just crack me up! I'm a homemaker and I made these and they turned out perfectly moist, just how the directions said.
I baked them for 17 minutes and used 1/12 C sugar instead of 2. I even melted the butter for a tiny bit in the micro to soften it.
I did half the frosting recipe from reading the reviews that it was to big. I still have some left over.
So to the "professionals"... maybe your not as good as you think.
