The orange flavor was a little overpowering, and the cook time was less than stated, but I might make these again with a few adjustments.

Saw these on the Next Food Network Star show and have always loved the orange and chocolate combo so I decided to try them out. I really like the orange flavor in the cake and unlike others, did not find it overpowering. The frosting was yummy but the 4 sticks of butter were definitely a turn off. I think a simple glaze of melted dark chocolate chips with orange extract would have provided the same flavor without the heart stopping pound of butter. I also found that the cupcakes only took 17-20 mins at 350 degrees when filled 3/4 of the way full. Overall, I would recommend this recipe but perhaps with another frosting or topping. Enjoy!

The cupcakes looked beautiful but only took twenty minutes to bake rather than 35 minutes as in the recipe. The real problem for me is that after tasting it, I was left with an overpowering taste of the orange extract which wouldn't leave. I think the recipe is unique and potentially great, but you can get an awful lot of orange flavoring without the use of the orange extract or at least a whole lot less of it.

Fantastic cupcakes...the buttermilk really makes it moist!
