These are so yummy and easy. My grandma did this for us every Saturday morning. I just love Sunny because she's so down to earth. I love hearing her "I remember" stories while she's cooking.

I just made these and they're pretty good. Only thing I would ommit is the zest. Once you put those in, the sugar would not stick to the donuts. But if you just use sugar and cinnamon, then they stick just fine. Another thing I did that I shouldn't have done was to roll the balls up and then leave it at room temperature. It started to rise and when frying, it doesn't keep its roundness. And it also fried up flakey. But overall they were tasty. Don't know if I'll make this again. They're not quite the same as the donut store type.

It isn't FAIR that people use this spot to rate the cook. It is to rate the food. If you don't like the show and talking-------don't watch. I like Sunny and her tales of family etc. Most other food network chefs do the same thing. I would even like to be on Sunny's show !! She is really down to earth, and has really good recipes. These are suppose to be a short cut way of making "donuts". I can't wait to try them.

When I was a kid we always used to make donuts this way and I'd totally forgotten till Sunny's recipe. We'd cut the hole in the middle of a biscuit and deep fry both. You get a donut and donut hole. Can't wait to make these!

Some people obviously don't cook much. These are NOT cake doughnuts - that is an entirely different thing.

These were delicious and we will definitely try them again!

Keep up the good work - your show ROCKS!

I viewed this episode just the week before and made a mental note to try in the future. So we were snowed in with the east coast blizzard 0f '10. My hubby worked all day and like most law enforcement officers, he likes a good donut : Ha! He turns and says "Sure wish I had a donut". We didn't because the store was sold out days before. My 7 year old and I went into the kitchen, brought out the little deep fryer, heated it up to 350*F and started this recipe. I was a little concerned about using "this" oil. I keep it fresh but usually fry french fries or cheese sticks in it. I didn't want to waste new oil. So I gave it a shot. I didn't have buttermilk biscuits but I did have butter flavored. We cut them up, rolled them and dropped into the fryer. Cooked for about 2-3 mins but no longer. The fresh orange zest was wonderful with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Served them to him with a tall glass of milk. He LOVED them! Wondered if I was making 2 or 3 dozen for him. lol We all enjoyed them and can't wait to make them again. Next time I might try inserting some pudding for a different twist.
