I made these wonderful cookies last night. they were easy and even though i didn't see alton brown make them and know to use a scale, i did figure out the measurements. they were moist, sweet and gone so fast! i will definetly make them again as so many loved them. i personally love anything with coconut and macadamia nuts so it was the perfect combination, and then of course the chocolate!

These are absolutely delicious and pretty easy. I also used my trusty kitchen scale as I do with all of my baking. Try it. Once you get used to measuring that way you'll never go back - it's faster, more accurate measuring and uniformity, less dishes to wash. And you'll quickly become familiar with "amounts" - a cup of all purpose flour is 4 1/4 oz., a cup of granulated sugar is 7 oz., etc. Anyway, I'll be including these wonderful and pretty cookies on my Christmas Eve cookie tray.

Delicious and pretty enough to gift. Cleanup was easy and the macadamia nuts were a nice touch.

I just made these, without the macadamia nuts because I didn't have them, and they are fantastic! I used my trusty kitchen scale and they were very easy! I've tried other macaroon recipes and find this one really good and easy too. Try it!

I realished reading all these silly comments about scales, ounces and measuring. I really had a few good chuckles. But! A few people did ask how to store these macaroons. If you watch the demo video from Alton through the end, he says to store them in a tin in between wax paper for up to 2 weeks.

I made these cookies this morning and they are awesome! I also melted some white chocolate to try on some and they were just as good... This recipe is a keeper!

I haven't even baked this cookies but I did read the review. There is no need to freak out about the ounces. Most large measuring cups will have ounces on them, or you can go to google and put in the ounces. 8 ounces is about 1 cup, so don't worry. If your measuring cup doesn't have ounces, Walmart has a whole section in the kitchen department and several have ounces. Don't let that stop you from baking.

These macaroons are dead easy, beginner baker, actually... the only mildly challenging part is folding in the eggs! Fun and very quick to make, they will stay on my "Christmas Cookies" list. I didn't use chocolate chips as I don't keep them in the house; I'm not fond of the 'waxy' taste of the chips... but they are convenient. I used some chopped block chocolate instead.
Regarding measuring baking ingredients... there is a reason Alton Brown tells folks to weigh flour rather than use volumetric measure - a "cup" just isn't accurate enough for baking in general. Of course, one could convert the weight and get an approximate volumetric measure - but why take the chance? Unless you have no scale, of course! And you know a scale would be a great Christmas present to yourself if nobody is thoughtful enough to gift you with one!

All I have to say is hats off to Alton yet again. I made them last night and they are absolutely heavenly. They have a nice crunchy outside with a pillowy softness in the middle. They are by no means dry. My husband tried one before they were dipped and he loved it. That is saying something since he is not a fan of coconut. They only got better once they were dipped in the chocolate and sprinkled with macadameias. This is very simple to make and is definetly a keeper.

I would love to make the macaroons but first, I would need to know how to store them ! Mary
