The topping on this was delicious. Crunchy and sweet! However, the 3 tablespoons of flour in the apple mixture was too much. The taste of the molasses and lemon are overpowered by the gritty taste of the flour. I would not make this filling again for this reason but, definitely use the topping again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this with my 7 year old niece. I cut up the apples and she mixed everything together. It was so easy! And the final product is so delicious. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great! I have made this several times this season already. If you want a little different flavor, I add vanilla to the crumb topping, or a little Nutmeg for the New England flair. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Talk about a bowl full of sweet, tart, hot, spicy, gooey, HEAVEN! This is the best apple crisp I've ever tried--and easy too. The problem is--I could eat the whole panful. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love the fall and all the seasonal foods that go with it. This recipe is my favorite. I did not have maple syrup so I used molasses instead. My family loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Yummmmmmy!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC !!! And healthy :-) thank you so so much for the recipe !!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This dessert was perfect. I do not normally change recipes the first time I make them, but I omitted the maple syrup. Two reasons: I didn't have any and I don't care for maple flavor. I made 4 individual ramekins and obviously just split the recipe four ways. I will definitely make this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Yum! Perfect for a cold day. The only downside to this dish was that it may have been a tad TOO sweet, but still delicious nonetheless. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Make this recipe on a regular basis. My godson has a standing request for it on his birthday. Everyone absolutely loves it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I loved this apple crisp recipe! It was a nice balance of sweet and tart without being overwhelming with either. My husband prefers his without the tart end, so if you're like him, I'd recommend making this with a sweeter apple. However, I recommend trying this recipe as-is for quick Fall treat! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I found this apple crisp to be delicious, the only thing I changed was, I added about 3/4 tsp of cinnamon to the filling for more flavor, also added 2 tabl of white sugar to the apples and the lemon juice. In this order: lemon juice mix, white sugar mix, cinnamon mix again, then added the topping , baked for 50 minutes because I forgot it in the oven, but it didn't burn at all it was crisp and delicious.I didn't use nuts in the topping, I liked it better then the ones made with oats. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Gonna give it a shot as my last batch's topping was too much like a bisquit and not enough like a crisp..wish me luck! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is the best apple crisp I have ever made! I'm not sure what kind of apples I used, I don't think it matters as long as they're good baking apples. I used pure maple syrup and added a little vanilla to the filling. My family really enjoyed it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
The worst "crisp" I have ever had. No flavor at all, might as well have eaten a spoon full of flour!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was so disappointed by this recipe, especially after the 5 star rating, it was a dull and incomplete taste experience. I found the recipe too dry and added apple juice after it cooked for the last five minutes, still unhappy with the results. I will definitely be looking for a better recipe for the next time item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is my go to desert. I have made this recipe at least a dozen times. It is fantastic! I make it for company all time and family functions and it gets rave reviews. I prepare it while dinner is cooking. I put it in the oven while we are eating and it's done when we are done eating. It makes the house smell so homey. Last fall I served it with pumpkin ice cream, what a treat. I do double the cinnamon but I do that with every recipe that calls for cinnamon. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great apple crisp recipe. I added extra cinnamon & pecans and omitted the syrup. Turned out very good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
The nuts are a great addition--I used walnuts. Looking over the recipe, I thought it looked too sweet, so I reduced the sugar in the filling to 1/3 cup. With the reduced sugar, I don't think it was too sweet--it was really yummy. We ate it with vanilla ice cream on top, still warm from the oven. I would add more cinnamon next time, but it was lovely as-is also. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Awesomely delicious...You have to make this dish! item not reviewed by moderator and published
One word... Fantastic!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was the best, I made it and it came out Awesome,Thanks Karen item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious!! It's also really easy to make. Will definitely be making this again. Loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good! I gave a 4 rating because it didn't really "crisp", but overall the taste was great. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I'm awful at peeling, so I just didn't! Love lemon, so I added some extra lemon juice. I didn't bother to wash the bowl I'd mixed my filling in before I mixed the crust in it, and I think the leftover traces of syrup might have helped it in the end. Based on other reviews and the knowledge that my oven doesn't tend to be very hot when it says it is, I baked it on 425 for 35 minutes. In a nutshell, you could say I made a lazy version - but it was fantastic! Especially with vanilla ice cream. Came out much better than my apple pies. My mother loved it too. I can't wait to make it again, for perhaps a bigger audience. It seems like it would be perfect for any occasion. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for a Canadian Thanksgiving and everyone LOVED it!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
AMAZING! I have made this soooooo many times I nearly have it memorized and I have cut the recipe in half...then in half again to make a single serving in a large ramikin when I want some just for myself! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is my favorite recipe!! I made it again yesterday & baked it in two dishes instead of one. I gave the other one as a gift to my neighbor. I would recommend doubling the recipe. It will go fast!! I also doubled the cinnamon & I go a little heavier on the nuts. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Came home with a bag from the apple orchard and went online to look for apple crisp recipes. I've made a couple different ones and then tried this one. I didn't have nuts handy, so I left out the maple syrup and nuts, but I did double the cinnamon as suggested by reviewers, added about 4 more tablespoons of butter to the topping, and put it under the broiler at the end, carefully watching it until it turned a beautiful golden brown. Excellent with cream or ice cream. It IS very sweet like some reviewers have said, and the topping is more of a dutch apple pie topping. The second time I made this recipe, I added 1/2 cup oats and it was still very good. It actually calmed down the sugar a bit. You can't go wrong with this one! item not reviewed by moderator and published
A few pointers: You will NOT get a true crispy apple crisp cooking at 350 for only 35 minutes. You need to cook it at about 400 for 30 minutes for it to really melt together,, and if you want it to be crispy. The flavor was really good. If you aren't going to add nuts, I would omit the syrup too, as it is there to boost the nutty flavor. It really tastes out of place if you aren't using nuts. Also, if your mixture is dry on the top, you will need to stir it up a bit to get it mixed in with the liquid so it gets crispy. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I wanted to make an apple crisp for dessert this evening, I didn't have oatmeal and every recipe I found had oatmeal...TIL I found this one! I don't have individual ramekins so I just used my square cake pan, came out delicious! Served with vanilla icecream, and omg it is soo good and I look like I can bake! : item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious!! Have never made crisp in ramekins before. I had always made it in an 8 in. dish, but the ramekins worked pretty good. Thanks for the recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this today in a 9x13 inch dish and it was delicious. The house smelled so good we could hardly wait for it to be done. I will definitely will make this again.. The only thing I changed was pecans for walnuts. We really don't care for pecans that well. I wish you guys were on everyday like you use to be,I could care less about chopped and cupcake wars. I liked the old programming much better. Thanks guys for a great recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Amazing!!! Everything about this dish was delectable. The maple syrup and crunchy pecans really elevated this apple crisp! I used an 8 inch casserole dish and cooked it for 55 minutes and it was perfect. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Even my non-nut lover gave this 5 stars! I was only able to fill 6 ramekins with modest servings and I added just a pinch of freshly added lemon zest to the apple mixture. Yum! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Amazing!!!!! I've made it 2 times already and love it ever time!! : item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought it was good though i would have liked a lot more crumble and a lot less apple... Just how I like it. Also Granny Smith apples are the right choice but there was a little toomuch tartness .... Maybe more sugar? item not reviewed by moderator and published
A winner! Can make a day ahead and reheat before serving. I omit the nuts to make it nut free for my family members who are allergic. So delicious with vanilla or dulce de leche ice cream. A hit everytime I make it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very very good, I added an apple for a total of 6 and subtracted 1 tablespoon of maple syrup for a total of 1 and it was the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Will definitely make this again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This apple crisp is sooooooooo delicious. I made it and I also had the crisp with some vanilla ice cream yum, yum, yum. I will make this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easy and yummy! FYI very sweet. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Wow! It's a hit! item not reviewed by moderator and published
amazing i have nothing else to say item not reviewed by moderator and published
SO easy & SO delicious!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic! Super decadent so not for those granola munchers looking for a healthy treat, duh, but tastes the way a good southern serving of apple crisp should. I also made it in a pie ramekin and it fit perfectly. item not reviewed by moderator and published
WAAAAAY too sweet, and needs oatmeal. I agree with "Steponme2," below. Also, dried cranberries would be a nice addition to add some flavor and a bit of tart. Hubby took one bite and pushed it aside, complaining of a mouth-full of sugar. I had a small bit of it, then put the rest down the garbage disposal. (It is a bit better warm than cold, however. I won't make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I prefer apple crisp made with an oatmeal crisp topping. I decided to try this one w/o the oatmeal to see if I'd like it just as much; not. The topping is my favorite part of the crisp and I feel it just didn't have any depth without the oatmeal. Also, I think the maple syrup gave it wierd taste. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is excellent - I didn't make individual ramekins but used a pie pan; and to cut the fat used 3 tablespoons margarine and 3 tablespoons of butter. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is super easy! I don't claim to be the best dessert maker but everyone raved about how good this was and made me feel like a pro. By request, I'm making this for our Thanksgiving dessert. Love the individual serving size ... Perfect size after a big meal. Followed the recipe exactly and wouldn't change a thing. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely Wonderful, I am not a cook by far but I made this recipe and my husband thought I was a chef. It was so easy and so good. I would absolutely try the neelys again... Husband response: I had very little expectation of my beautiful wife baking skills, but after this dish, I am so very excited to see her make our next dish.. I am not a big fan of apples, but the topping & apples were perfect together.. Thank you for the wonderful apple crisp, My wife is making your stuffed pork chops right now... GO NEELYS!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Awesome!! My husband does not like apple pie, but he loves this recipe. Super easy and delicious. This will be a go to for the holidays! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I REALLY like this recipe! It's so easy and absolutely delicious! I will definitely make this again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just love, love this recipe !! thank you sooooooo-much,,I will use it in place of apple pie,,I enjoy all your shows .thanks ever so,,keep on cooking,I'll b-watching !! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is absolutely delicious!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This didn't have a great result for me and I'm thinking it was user error. Maybe I didn't mix the topping well enough, because all we tasted was flour. Lots of flour. It sort of killed the recipe. I'll try it again because it was super easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was awesome!!! I was testing dessert recipes before Thanksgiving and this is a winner.. I will definitely make this again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good had apples that was a little tart in stead of throwing them away I made this and it was very very good Will make it again item not reviewed by moderator and published
Truly unbelievably yummy!!!! I made it for my 4 GENERATIONS, & we all loved it. My grandma kept saying she loved it over & over <she's 95.> I followed the directions to a T, & I will make this again & again! It pairs so perfectly w/ vanilla ice cream. Thanks Neelys! Yet another one of your recipes to put in "My Favorites" cookbook. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I signed up on Food Network just to rate this recipe because it is so so good. I couldn't stay out of it before it even cooled. I am making it for the second time this week. The recipe could use some vanilla, but otherwise it is amazing! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have tried many different recipes for apple crisp but this one is the absolute best. I followed the recipe as written, not adding or subtracting anything, and it came out perfect. After it cooled, I put it in the fridge to firm up. Later that evening we heated it up and put vanilla ice cream on top. It was the bomb!! Love the Neelys. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic! I could have eaten all of them! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is easy but basically just stewed apples. Will not make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This apple crisp is SO easy and really delicious. I served it last night at a dinner party and it was a hit! Im not a fan of nuts so I only put in half the amount in both the filling and the topping. I doubled the topping and served it with cinnamon ice cream. It was for sure the best I've ever had, but I knew it would be. The Neelys rock all apple recipes! I make Neely homeade apple sauce all the time, thank you for another great apple recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
The Granny Smith apples add a nice tartness to the sweet flavors in the recipe not to mention a nice textural component. I question the recipe yielding 8 servings but then again, my boyfriend and I enjoyed it so much that our servings were a little over the top: I only made one slight change to the recipe by adding nutmeg (1/8 tsp to the topping. Instead of using ramekins, I made it in a large casserole dish and baked it about 30 minutes. Yummy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is DELICIOUSSSSS!!! My sister loved it when I made it for her. I just don't use pecans but everything else I keep exactly the same. I must admit I have made it at least five times already especially when you top it off with some vanilla ice cream....yummmm :. Thanks and keep it up. oh p.s. you guys bbq sauce is the business too ; item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is FANTASTIC. It was gone in a day. I've got to make another one tomorrow. Easy and it tastes great. Thank you. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was amazing! I, as well as my family, loved this recipe. It was easy to make and delicious. I did tweek the recipe a bit. I didn't have any maple syrup so I used dark corn syrup instead. Also, I did not add cinnamon because my dad has troubles eating it. All in all a great recipe. THANKS NEELYS! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was so simple and delicious. THanks Neelys! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is one of the best apple crisps I've ever served. It was easy, but very tasty. The combination of tart and sweet combined with crunchiness of the peacans was excellent. Served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a real family pleaser. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very Tasty. I'm not big on oats, so this was perfect. I did not have Pecan so I subsituted walnuts which worked fine. I would not hesitate to serve this at a dinner party with a little ice cream and carmel sauce, add a little whip cream and you'd have a very fancy dessert. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was AMAZING. I made this after dinner tonight and it totally exceeded my expectatioins. I doubled the topping and left out all the nuts in both the topping and filling. I could seriously eat that topping all day long. ****PLEASE don't let the few bad reviews sway you from making this!**** I will definitely make this again VERY soon! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I agree with KW Michele...this is the worst apple crisp recipe ever I have ever had! I don't recall ever having leftovers that got thrown away until I made this recipe! Yuck!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Best by far! I love to make extra topping! YUMMY! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was just ok. I made it exactly the way the recipe recommended with no customizations. The topping looking powdery and undercooked. I prefer recipes with Oats and more butter, I think they make for a tastier topping. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a wonderful receipe! To the person who did not like it, if you should have known better than to try something from the Neely's, then you should not have tried it! Stick with who you want to stick with but I love the Neely's because they are real cooks! Thanks Neelys! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a quick and tasty recipe. I think the one star comment that KW-Michele made was RUDE. If you don't like the recipe, "Don't comment. Keep it to yourself." Don't ruin someone's star ratings! Thx LS item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this recipe tonight and it was excellent! Will certainly make it again. I noticed that in the video online she cut the butter into cubes then let it come to room temperature. That created a more crubmbly topping than mixing the butter in cold as the recipe seemed to indicate. I mixed the cold butter cubes in similar to how you would mix a pie crust and it worked OK but I'll do it the other way next time. I used 8 oz. ramekins and it made 6. Thanks Neelys, we all enjoyed it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was looking for a recipe that did not contain oats. Since this was highly rated I decided to give it a try. Looking back, I should have known better since I have yet to try a recipe from The Neelys that I love. Although this is typically one of my favorite desserts, it certainly was not the case with this recipe. For starters, it is too many nuts for an ingredient that isn't usually in this dessert. The baking time seems very off. I will stick with Paula Deen and Ina Garten when I want a traditional, old fashion recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Wonderfull idea. One for everyone item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is easy and delicious. Just one suggestion. If you are a beginner baker like me, make sure you have a NEW box of brown sugar. If the sugar is old it will clump and burn. I learned the hard way. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was delicious......made it in a pie plate instead and doubled the topping. Would definitely make again..........very easy to make. Served with vanilla ice cream. item not reviewed by moderator and published
My first Neely recipe and I was impressed! Made this as our Sunday dessert. Found that cooking the entire 45 mins is too long. Read the previous reviews and next time I will cook less time. It was a little dry, but I added a little water and it recovered. I used a 11 x 7 glass pyrex dish, two large granny smith apples instead of five, chopped as instructed, doubled the topping recipe, added an additional handful of brown sugar and oatmeal to the topping for crunch & sweetness and one large scoop of Edy's French Vanilla ice cream. I've decided to omit the salt next time as I found it's really not needed. My husband requested I add additional cinnamon the next time. All I can say is we almost hurt ourselves eating this. It was gone in less than two complete days. Adding this to our Thanksgiving menu. Yum....... item not reviewed by moderator and published
OMG! I don't eat cooked fruit, especially apples and I thought this was just wonderful and easy and so did the rest of the family. Great right out of the oven!!! I'll make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is the best Apple Crisp I have ever made!! I love to bake, and this is one of my FAVORITE things to make! YUM-O item not reviewed by moderator and published
I guess my family's taste for desserts is different than the majority of the folks here who tried this recipe. We found it much too sweet - we all left it in our plates unfinished. If you don't like overly sweet desserts, this may not be the recipe for you. item not reviewed by moderator and published
BEST apple crisp I've ever eaten! The brown sugar in the filling caramelized and created a light coating to the apples which, with the pecans, made me picture a caramel apple! There is nothing to change or add, as this is perfect as-is. I normally add a lot of spice to my apple dishes (nutmeg, allspice, cloves, etc so I was nervous about only adding a bit of cinnamon, but the deep richness of the brown sugar made the simplicity of the cinnamon something special! item not reviewed by moderator and published
AAAMAZING!! I made it for a girls night at my house and they couldnt get enough of it. I wouldnt change one thing. It was super easy to prepare and cook. I will defintely make this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely loved this. It was gone in one setting. My friends couldn't stop talking about it. I wanted more of a pie feel to it, so I sliced the apples, rather than dice them. It was great! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Wonderful! Great Fall Dessert, great flavor! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is my new reason to go back to the apple orchard!!! I made this with the apples leftover from a field trip to the orchard and loved it. I've made apple crisp before but never prepared the filling. Usually make crumb topping and just covered the diced apples. Yumminess at its best! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my boyfriend and our roommate and it wasn't until it was in the oven that I realized I forgot the maple syrup. Even without that added layer of flavor we all thought it was awesome! You could really taste the true flavor of the apples with the pecans, great combo! Definitely will be making this again. SUPER easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I am learning how to bake and this was so easy and delicious! My boyfriend couldn't stop eating and it tastes just as good the next day. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fabulous Recipe. Always make this when I have a party or when I'm in the mood for something sweet. Very easy to follow. I've used walnuts and pecans, and both taste great! Tastes good the next day, just pop in the microwave for a few seconds, and serve with ice cream- the perfect combination! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I left out the pecans, added raspberries and a little extra brown sugar to make up for the sour raspberries. It was AMAZING - great recipe!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is scrumptious!! Just for that added "yumminess" I sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon and brown sugar on top!! The Neely's get 5 stars from our family & friends!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Out of this world. This is the second time I've made this. I love the individual servings. I used Splenda Brown Sugar mix tonight to cut a few calories and it was just as good as the first time I made it. Great recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was wonderful. And super easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
