A VERY SIMPLE TO FOLLOW RECIPE WITH EXCELLENT TASTE RESULTS. THE MUSHROOM GRAVY BLENDED WITH THE FLAVOR OF THE STEAK WITHOUT OVERRIDING EACH OTHER OR BEING TOO SALTY. THE GROUND MUSTARD HAS A ZEST/SPIKE TO IT THAT DIJON MUSTARD CANT REPLACE W/O USING LOTS MORE AND CHANGING THE CONSISTENCY OF THE MEAT . DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF BY EXCLUDING THE BRANDY. IT TAKES A MEDIOCRE DISH TO A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. I USE POWDERS BUT THE SHALLOTS WERE MUCH MORE COMPLIMENTARY TO THIS DISH THAN THE REGULAR ONION AND GARLIC THAT ARE SO COMMONLY USED.

Oh! This was delicious. Both the steaks and the gravy have TONS of flavor. I made a few tweaks based on what I had available to me. I used half an onion in the patties and the other half in the gravy; dijon mustard instead of ground mustard; fresh wheat bread crumbs instead of panko; 1/4 tsp ground thyme instead of 1 tsp fresh thyme; and I used an extra half cup of beef stock instead of the brandy.

I'm sure the original recipe is great, but my version is a tiny bit more affordable. I'm just saying.

Honestly, the recipe is lacking something. It was like a lump of ground beef on the plate, even with the shallots inside, the spices, and the mushroom gravy on top. The flavor was uninspired. I followed the recipe exactly as written. I am still seeking the perfect chopped steak or Salisbury steak recipe. I used a top-shelf brandy, and Wolfgang Puck beef stock, and it still didn't help the flavor. I am so disappointed because I spent a lot of money for this ground beef fiasco.

I couldn't wait to try this recipe when I saw it on air with the mashed cauliflower and I love most of the Neelys cooking but this was just okay to me. I followed the recipe, loved the gravy but not sure I'll make again.

Super easy and tasty! Subbed sherry for the brandy as well as chicken stock for the beef and still turned out great!

We buy beef in bulk from a local rancher. So, I'm always looking for ways to use ground beef. Much fancier than burgers and chili. Loved it!

great week night recipe. finished on the stovetop instead of the oven and used round instead of sirloin. didn't have brandy, so used jamaican rum ; also used dry thyme instead of fresh. very satisfying

Such simple ingredients and yet such an amazing taste! My husband went back for seconds! The meat is tasty and takes on the flavors in the gravy. So moist. And, ahh yes, the gravy....wow! It made this "Blue Plate Special" taste like it was from a "5 Star Resturant"! Of, course, I have never had anything that comes from The Neelys that has tasted anything but fabulous! Keep 'em comin' Pat and Gina!
