i made this cake for new years' dessert. i didn't sample it until a day later. i had a slice with my first cup of coffee. it was like a donut! it was so good and tasty! very dense, not too sweet.

i found that when i made it, it made sense to either use a little less cream in the ganache or make it before you start the cake. it needs to set up a little before it hits the cake or else it melts in and gets thin.

    Too Dry!

I made this cake for Christmas dinner and was very disappointed. I followed the directions exactly and the cake was very dry. I was so embarrassed. I'll never make it again!

PERFECT! The previous ratings saying anything negative about this recipe must have been made wrong. This was absolutely perfect. A huge hit. Used it as the base cake in another FN recipe for Chocolate Cherry Trifle (Nigella Lawson. Combination was absolutely incredible. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. This will now be our regular Christmas dessert.

Did not like. Not sweet enough evev with 3 cups sugar, and not enough chocolate flavor. Found cake very dry. Been baking for over 40 years and seldom find a cake this bad.

I was worried with the other comments that I read, but it turned out great. I've been told before that using extra large eggs can help moisten cakes. Also when a recipe calls for room temp, I usually set my eggs out to become semi-room temp. Hershey's does make a blend of natural and dutched cocoas. Not sure all stores carry it though. Hope this helps.
