It was fair but that's about it. A whole bottle of wine(I used a Cab is overkill..2 cups is enough, add the difference in broth. First day was very rich tasting...tasted better the 2nd day. Alot of work for fair to good tasting.

This was my first time cooking and eating oxtail stew. I liked it. My husband loved it. We were both full and could not finish our plates. I love the Neely's and wanted to try this recipe the first time I saw them making it on their show.

I watched your Oxtail stew show and scribbled down all the ingredients. We were having a barbeque the next day and a family friend from Tennessee was coming so my wife and I browned the oxtails, chopped everything up and dumped everything in the pot in about 30 minutes, then left it to stew for 3 hourse. When they arrived, the house smelled wonderful, and when we served it up, everyone was delighted! The meat was so tender, the wine gave the sauce a beef bourgignon flavor, and our guest seemed very pleased. We have made this several times since, and I hope to buy more oxtails this weekend (they're not cheap$$. THanks Neelys for sharing this family recipe! love your show too!

I tried the recipe and the wine test was overwhelming my kitchen smelled like wine. When my family and I tried the oxtails they were horrible we could only test the wine.

I just made these yesterday and they turned out pretty well. Shared it with some friends and they loved it too. I got the oxtails from Costo for like $18 for 5 lbs (about $3.99/lb. Took a total of 3 1/2 hours to cook everything from chopping to browning the oxtails to simmering till tender. Maybe another 30 minutes to wash all the mess after haha. I didn't have a dutch oven but I had one of those Platinum cookware so that worked out fine. I used a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon ($3 bottle for the dry red wine. And yeah I did pour in the full bottle. After about 2 hours, the wine really evaporates so no I didn't have the same wine issues as some have experienced (maybe their heat was too low?. I had to add a bit more thyme towards the end and I used sea salt instead of Kosher. One thing that I will consider adding next time I make this again is about half a can (to start with of "Reno Liver Spread" to sort of add a little smokiness to the flavor. Maybe a 1/4 stick of butter towards the end would help too. But in general it was a successful endeavor. Thanks for the recipe!
