It is a fabulous thought that at 79 yrs old I can still find luscious food to eat & Mr & Mrs your dish was the best-very sad that turnips are not as popular as they should be.My turnips were chunky & the potatoes that surrounded them when mashed were creamy, tasty and melted in my mouth 3 CHEERS

i had never cooked/eaten turnips before, and i got 5 relatively big ones from a farm stand the other day. i searched for recipes, and thought i'd make gratin with cream, cheese, and butter. however, i was also making meat loaf and wanted a bit lighter side dish to go along with it. i tried this recipe, with all the 5 turnips with 2 potatoes. i also added some cream and a tad more butter than the recipe calls. it turned out amazing! it was at first a bit watery so i cooked the mashed mixture further to remove the excess moisture. it is mild in taste, but with the little cream, milk, and butter, it has rich creamy texture and just enough flavor! such a great healthy alternative to regular mashed potatoes, and you'd be very satisfied!
