First time made cake and icing .It was perfect every one loved it.To save time I used box cake mix and put the cookies in the batter and made the icing and it great .You can also add the buttermilk for the water in the cake mix .It works great both ways .Never had it dry

okay so heres my recommendations- use 1 cup cake flour & 1 cup of cake flour. add one box of oreo pudding to the mix as well as 8 oz sour cream. the cake comes out dry so the sour cream makes it moist. :

This recipe was delicious. My kids loved the cake and and were trying to sneak more from each other's plate.I will say that you need to make sure not to over cook it because its a little like a cake brownie texture. It was a perfect compliment to the sweet frosting. I also only used one cream cheese just because after reading some of the reviews I wanted to save some cream if possible for other dishes. It was plenty but you do have to gage by eye if you like icing because I had just enough to ice the middle and the outside scraping overy ounce out of the bowl. Thanks Miss Gina. May I also say that its refreshing to watch the love and affection between you two after you have been married so long.

Best ever with the cookies I used, but, however, I would like to use the
best of the best cookies that they used when making this. What did
the Neely's use, please answer.

So, for all you busy moms out there ... let me tell you the shortcut I use on this recipe, it turns out great every time ... and everyone thinks you're amazing for creating such a delicious cake!! The big secret ... you guessed it, use a boxed chocolate cake mix! Add the 1 1/2 cups of oreo's to the mix and just follow the directions on the box. Then just whip up the Cookie's & Cream Cheese Icing (I use 2 3/4 cups of powdered sugar, about a cup less than what it calls for. It makes a ton of icing so I always frost it all around the sides too, rather than just the top and middle ~ hey, if you've got the extra icing, I say use it! I always buy extra Oreo's to crumble all around the top and sides to garnish. Anyway, hope someone out there appreciates this ... It's fun getting all the accolades for bringing this huge cake to your family cook out when you know it only took you a quarter of the time they think it did!! I hope my sister doesn't read this ...

this is the first time i try to make a cake from scratch. and it was a hit!!! starting with the batter, i just wanted to eat it up just like that!! and the frosting was AMAZING, out of this world!!! i cannot express how DELICIOUS this cake was. i did make a few changes though. i didnt really measure the cocoa, because i love chocolate, i added twice as much butter, and i added a bit more buttermilk because i read the reviews. and my cake turned out moist, and just amazing. and the frosting was super easy and sooo creamy and buttery. OMG you must give this cake a try. :D

The first time I made this cake it was really dry. I tried again tonight. I added another stick of butter and 1/4 cup more of buttermilk. It came out perfect.

We made this cake with an 8 year old boy and 4 year old girl. It was easy for them to participate in the process. Reviews from the children "I am not much of a cake baker, but I did have an ok time making it. The taste testings were good but the whole cake cooked didn't turn out as I expected" 8yr old. "It was stupendous because I love it and I love cake"-4 yr old. I thought the cake was a little dry. we used mint flavored oreos for a fresh summer vibe...that worked out well.

This cake was really good, but the Oreos get a little soggy when it bakes. It's also difficult to frost because of the chunks in the icing. Other than that, it tastes wonderful. It's very sweet, but my nephews loved it. I think it's better suited to kids than adults.

I made this over the weekend and couldn't get the cakes out of the pans. I think I waited too long after I took them out of the oven. The cakes tore and weren't salvageable, so I never got around to making the icing. I did try the cake and it had a good flavor to it. It was a bit dry though. I'm going to try making it again next weekend and I might put a little more buttermilk in it than the recipe suggests. It is an easy cake batter to make, so I'm keeping it in my rotation.
