This was AMAZING and we didn't burn the house down! One cautionary tale...the instructions say to mark the water level with the turkey in the pot, remove the turkey and fill with oil to the mark. The mark MUST be made without the turkey in the cooker. Common sense, but you never can tell after a few pomegranate cosmos!

I am allergic to Turkey protein, but since I was hosting Thanksgiving this year for 20+ I thought my guest might like a Turkey. I decide to make Fried Turkey as it freed up the oven for other things. I seasoned it at midnight Thursday morning and we fried it at 3:00 p.m. It took 45 mins. to fry a 12 lbs. fresh Turkey. I didn't have cayenne pepper so I subsituted some generic cajun seasoning I had. I doubled the recipe and used all of the seasoning. That Turkey smelled so good I was so tempted to sample it. All of my guest commented on the flavor, the crispy tasty skin and the moist meat. People kept asking me for the recipe. As one guest commented "someone needs to slap someones mama cause this is good" I am going to try this seasoning on a baked chicken in the future. Thank You Pat and Gina for sharing this recipe with us.

I also used Alton Brown's turkey brine for about 13 hrs first, then used this marinade for over 24 hrs...it was absolutely amazing!!! We usually inject the marinade, NEVER AGAIN...the entire bird was so moist and so were the leftovers even after a nuking in the microwave. We will be making the bird this way from now on. May try it with a chicken too.

The rub was outstanding. I only let my turkey set for about 8 hours and it was the best fried turkey I have made. And ya can't beat those indoor friers. They are the best!! Will definetly make again.

The Neelys have done it again!!!! Instead of injecting our turkey this year I used the rub recipe and our fried turkey was absolutely fabulous this year!!!!! My family wanted us to fry another turkey.....everyone requested the ingredients for the rub...I wish I could take all the credit but I told them it was another Pat and Gina great recipe......I just love myself some Down Home with the Neeleys.....keep sharing your great recipes!!!! Instead of deep frying the turkey we baked our turkey with this particular seasoning. The flavor was very mild, I don't care for it on a turkey may for a chicken. Overall the turkey drippings made and excellent gravy.
