I think this recipe turned out very well. However, I think it is terrible how some of the reviewers are so mean and down right cruel in how they comment on the chefs on the Food Channel. The comment regarding the size of the Neelys was unnecessary. They may be "full figured", but they are wealthy and rich in money and spirit. Before you comment about others, turn the light on yourself and look in the mirror. I am sure that you will not like what YOU see.

Ready-to-use pie crusts, like those recommended (Pillsbury come "rolled up." The "roll out" in the recipe's instructions, in this case, really means to "unroll" the pie crust from its packaged state. Yes, as with a great many other recipes included on the Food Network site, this faux pas with the English language demonstrates vividly the need for FoodNetwork to contract the services of an editor who understands how to make perfectly clear, in simple text, a process such as that required in this case. To "roll out" a pie crust does, in common culinary usage, indeed convey the use of a rolling pin. In this case, however, "roll out" does not convey the real meaning intended . . . and that's a shame . . . it has caused a number of you to experience frustration and achieve unsatisfactory and unsatisfying results from an otherwise, quite simple recipe.

I made this and followed the directions to a T and it did't work so well for me! The apple pies started to open up once I put them in the oil...I closed the ends with a fork as directed. The apples were a little to bitter for me and I agree with the other user that the crust gets too thin when rolled out. I would make again but just tweak a couple things to my liking. With the correct adjustments I think it will work out well.

Thanks Pat & Gina for the recipe, my mom uses dried apples to make her fried apple pies and I always thought that was the only way to cook fried apple pies, fearing fresh apples would would cook and become soggy, they both work perfect....
