I was able to make 1 donut. The dough was to sticky I tried to refrigerate the dough for 15 minutes. Did not work for me. Very disappointed. Great taste to bad I couldn't make more then 1 donut.

These are so great and easy - they were the first donuts I ever learned to make. I usually make them with a glaze of orange juice and powdered sugar or coat them in cinnamon sugar. Instead of using biscuit cutters, I use a class and punch out the middle with a soda cap. Be sure to measure your oil temperature throughout.

Does anyone know if we could use real maple syrup for the glaze instead of extract? Also, would applesauce work in place of the pumpkin puree? Thanks!

I did not have pumpkin puree, so I made my own puree out of apples. In the end, the cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg combo really complemented that flavor. My family loved it and kept wanting to go back for more. Fortunately, it made such a huge batch of doughnuts. I also did not have buttermilk, so I went according to the commonly known method of mixing some lemon in the milk and they were perfect! I also reduced the amount of sugar by adding stevia. I recommend this recipe!

someone was asking for pumpkin substitute..
i would think you could use some sour cream... i usually add that when i bake muffins/cake to get it really moist!

I made these donuts in the afternoon and they came out great. I followed the glaze recipe exactly that evening. I poured the glaze over the donuts and it was beautiful. The only problem that came about was the glaze would disappear into the donuts. If there is anyone that can give me some advice on why that kept happening.

The dough isn't just sticky... it's downright wet. Needs at least another cup of flour just to be workable. And I'd recommend using an electric skillet to fry them so you can regulate the temperature of the oil. That being said, these are the definition of comfort food. A totally delicious treat.
