Great traditional chili! I wanted to make a larger quantity and added a pound of ground turkey breast along with increasing other non-meat ingredients. Also, I enjoy heat; therefore, I roasted and chopped a poblano pepper to add to the pot - taste the poblanos before adding however, as they vary in heat from pepper to pepper. Some poblanos not much hotter than a green pepper; whereas, other poblanos mimic jalapenos.

This recipe is more of a southwest chili style with the chipotle flavor and black beans. It took a lot of salt (2 tsp to bring out the rich layers of flavor. It is not spicy at all, so I added cayenne pepper as well as liquid smoke suggested by other reviewers. Then it was good to go. I made this with the Neely's honey cornbread muffins and it was a fantastic meal on a cold Minnesota night.

This is a very good chili recipe. I am not a chili fan as far as spicy, but this is great!!!. I prepared it exactly as the recipe indicates and it turmed out awesome!!! Very little spice, big on flavor. I also like the fact that there are tons of veggies.. I didnt use the black beans because I dont like them, but otherwise, worth the time!!!. It was actually better the second day. I didnt put lime juice in it, but I did put sour cream, cheese and onions!!! The only suggestion or change that I would make is to use bacon in the begining as instructed, but then save some of the cooked bacon to crumble on at the end!!! Talk about good!!!.. Oh yeah, and instead of 6 slices of bacon, I like other reviewers used a whole pack!!!.... Love it Neely's...

I've made this recipe several times and each time the chilli was perfection! Great for large crowds.

Very, very good. Nice and sweet and not too hot.

It makes a big difference to add the spices while the onions etc. are cooking - releases the oils in the spices. Will definitely be making again!

Best chili I've ever had! I'm convinced that you just can't go wrong with the Neelys. The only thing I didn't do is add sour cream and lime wedges. I garnished with Mexican shredded cheese and red onions. Delicious!

Great recipe! Followed the recipe to a T but at the end I added some liquid smoke and I really think it added the little kick I was looking for. Fantastic!

I happened to find some thinly shreed beef and replaced it for the ground beef in the recipe. It turned out fantastic! We took this chili to a chili dinner for our son's cross country team. The pot emptied very quickly and people were rushing back for seconds. This is the best chili I have ever tasted! The honey cornbread muffins turn out perfectly too and go great with this chili.
