Even though I soaked the beans overnight. They were tough and mealy after 5 1/2 hours in the oven. I think the beans sure be precooked or at least par cooked on the stove top before baking in the oven with the other ingredients. These beans were way too sweet and not spicy enough, but that's a matter of taste. The basic problem is the recipe was never tested or reviewed before it was published on the Food Network web site. The Neely's Interstate BBQ restaurant is serving a completely different bean dish.

I came to print this recipe to try later and have to agree w/the posters about not having direct links to some of the main components of this recipe. While I could find the BBQ sauce easily, it should have been linked through this recipe. The dry rub was no where to be found for me on food network (Neely's version, so I googled it and found it here:

    http://www.ochef.com/r498.htm

    Ingredients:

    1-1/2
    cups paprika
    3/4 cup sugar
    3-3/4 tablespoons onion powder

    Instructions:

Stir together the ingredients in a small bowl. Stored in an air tight container in a cool, dry place, this seasoning will last for up to 6 months.

    Yield: Makes about 2-1/2 cups

I may have missed it w/in foodnetwork itself, but that seems to only further my point.

Based on how it was cooked on TV, the Neely's used their regular barbecue sauce for the beans, NOT the Alabama White BBQ sauce that was used on the chicken in the same episode.

I tried this recipe and I love it. You should always soak your beans first. Sorry they didn't say this. This is not the page for the white bbq sauce. That would be the chicken. Thanks for posting the Neely's BBQ sauce and rub. I've been wondering how to get it. FOODNETWORK please note!!!! :

I was leery about trying this recipe based upon the negative reviews, but I couldn't figure out how they could be so bad because the ingredients are exactly what you would expect for baked beans! I made the recipe according to the instructions and didn't have a problem with the beans taking too long.

ALSO...THE WHITE BBQ SAUCE RECIPE IS MEANT FOR THE CHICKEN!!!! Too many people didn't pay attention! There is a separate Neely's regular BBQ sauce recipe meant for the beans! I hope nobody actually put the white sauce into the beans!

I just copied and pasted from the recipe 1 cup Neely's barbecue sauce: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/down-home-with-the-neelys/neelys-bbq-sauce-recipe/index.html

    It
would be nice to have these ingredients as Hot Links to the actual recipe location...oh well we can get over it and adapt?!

All of you who have said you can't find the white bbq sauce, its because it is on the recipe for the chicken!!! The recipe is called Grilled Chicken with Alabama White BBQ Sauce.

The problem with this recipe is that the BBQ sauce and seasoning recipes are missing and too much is left to imagination. While the Alabama White BBQ sauce was used in a chicken recipe on the same episode these beans were made, I seriously doubt if anyone, much less the Neely's, would use mayo in baked beans. There's another Neely's BBQ sauce recipe on this web site. I haven't seen the show, but suspect that this is the correct sauce recipe. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/down-home-with-the-neelys/barbeque-baked-beans-recipe/index.html

    2
    cups ketchup
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
    5 tablespoons light brown sugar
    5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
    1/2 tablespoon onion powder
    1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.

    Yield: 3 1/2 cups

A recipe for Neelys BBQ Seasoning, which may or may not be the one used in this recipe is:
    1 1/2 cups paprika
    3/4 cup sugar
    3 3/4 tablespoons onion powder

I haven't made this recipe yet but give it 3 stars because of the missing information. If I have the correct BBQ sauce recipe, the beans should taste good. I'll post another review if I actually make these beans.
