Loved this recipe - easy and very good. I followed the recipe and added three ingredients: a a handful of chopped cilantro, b 3 diced small roma tomatoes, and c a pinch of red pepper flakes. I love cilantro in just about anything and it added a flavor background to the red bean mixture. I added the tomatoes for taste and texture and the red pepper for a hint of zing. As some others have done, I baked some cornbread to go along with the red beans/rice.

All in all a great dish - hats off to the Neelys!

This is one of my favorite comfort foods on cold, nasty days. It's great to serve with cornbread and a movie. Revy

ThanksPat & Gina. This is the easiest recipe in the world to make. Its amazing how delicious it is compared to its simplicity. I preparred it by the recipe to the tee, and then I put a Mississippi spin on it the next time that I made it. I used 1/2 lb of smoked sausage and 1/2 lb of HOT smoked sausage. The kicked up spice made it taste like a totally different recipe. THANK YOU GUY'S.

Absolutely wonderful!!!! I followed the directions to the tee and this VERY simple recipe turned out beautifully. The aroma was to die for and the flavor on top of flavor was very appealing. Thanks Neely's for being a part of the food network team

So easy to make and delicious! The key is letting it cook down where most of the beans have popped...I pop a few beans when they're soft as it boils to help it along.

Excellent recipe. Only change I made was add a little red pepper flakes. Next time I need to double recipe. It was that good.
