I cut the recipe back a little to make less cookies and they came out perfect! Very easy to make - after adding all the ingredients, I mixed the dough by hand with a fork as my hand mixer is a cheapo and has no low setting, I kept mixing until the dough was smooth. Why the negative comments? These are delish

These cookies reminded me and my family of the Royal Dansk butter cookies. These are going to be made throughout the season and maybe even the year. Thanks

Although I haven't tried the cookie recipe, I read all the reviews.....
And I agree that their Bedroom Antics are sickening in the kitchen.
Plus, Mrs. Neely must be doing more drinking than cooking. She's
always "Hooting and Hollering" and causing major commotions. I can always tell when they're on cause of her. Then I have to change the channel.
And as for the PIG cookie cutter? Think!!! What does it represent?

I bake many different kinds of cookies every Christmas, but have never made butter cookies before. I collect pigs and make gingerbread "pigs" every year for St. Nicholas Day so I knew these cookies were for me as soon as I saw the picture even though I have no experience with butter cookies.

I got up at 6 am today to take the butter out of the fridge, and I started the assembly of the dough at around 9:30 am. I found it very difficult. I used a hand-held electric mixer to cream the butter (which I use for all the cookies I bake as I don't own a Kitchen Aid or other brand of stand mixer. I could not get the mixer through the butter, and it took several minutes to clear the clumped-up butter off the beaters. I finally gave up and did all the beating and mixing by hand with a rubber spatula. Also, the dough, although it mixed, stayed sort of dry and grainy and never became smooth. To obtain what I thought was the proper consistency, I used the warmth from my hands to soften it and form it into balls that at least stayed together.

So what did I do wrong? Are all of these recipes written for heavy-duty stand mixers?

I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. Thanks

The Neeleys sugar cookies is simple and GREAT for some one just learning to make Christmas Cookies. They come out perfect every time. Don't forget we have a lot of new bakers out there who could use this easy, good tasking recipe.
I also us a Pig Cookie Cutter to make my Christmas cookies called Pigs of Finland- the cookie is a Piparkakuts. The PIG is a very popular cutter in Europe or for any one that makes old world cookies.

I was so pleased with everything about this recipe: 1. No eggs - you can eat the dough with safety! 2. The dough rolls easier than other sugar cookie recipes I've tried and it did not stick to the more intricate cookie cutters. 3. Best of all, it tastes great - not too thick, not too sweet . . . just right! Also, thanks for including some basic recipes like this for the 12 days of cookies. My kids and I have decided to try every recipe this year and some of the cookies are just too "fancy" for kids' tastes. Plus, what kid doesn't like cut outs? Thanks for thinking of ALL your viewers!

Pamela from CA or anyone else, can you please provide a good icing recipe for these cookies? And do people tend to like them better iced or no icing? Thanks in advance.
