I made these cookies with my girls this evening and I have to say they turned out great! I have been looking for a simple cookie recipe that we could use our cookie cutters with that did not include eggs. It was simple and the girls had a blast! I have to admitt I did not leave it in the refridge for the full 2 hours...My girls were too excited but they came out just fine after 45 minutes in there. I am sorry that some people did not find this recipe challanging enough for them but for me it was just what I was looking for.

Why are people so quick to criticize? I loved these cookies. They were not meant to be sweet, they are "BUTTER" cookies. We had some plain, frosted some with chocolate frosting, and used glaze on some as well. My daughter and I love them. They were so easy and fun to make also. I absolutely love the Neely's.

I'm new to baking cookies this being probadlly my fifth year. However I look so much forward to the Twelve Days Of Cookies by FN. I look for perhaps one or two recipes that WOW me and would do the same to folks who will be eating my cookies. I'm hoping Pat & Gina's Butter Cookie will do just that. I perfer to make a 'smiple' recipe and one that is little more challenging or say has a WOW factor. Listen-up everyone.....we still have 9 more days of cookies. Lets not be so, harsh on FN, this is all about enjoying the HOLIDAYS!

Merry Christmas....please stop jumping on each other --- I'm sure the cookies are great -- may take a time and temp change depending on your oven - again, Merry Christmas - cookies are great!!!!!

I followed the recipe exactly as shown( and yes they do state the oven temp
After the 2 hours in the ref. the dough was like a brick and had to let it sit out about 30 minutes before I could roll it out, not very time consuming when wanting to make lots of Christmas cookies. The taste is nothing to brag about either. I do like their show, just lets people know that you don't have to be a "chef" or a baker to make good food. Yes, sometimes they get a little much with the "brown sugar" stuff for a kitchen; but hey they are also having fun and if you don't like the show, nobody can make you watch it!

I must say, many a time have I come to this site and used a wide variety of the recipes from all different chefs, bakers, cooks, stay at home moms ( have we forgotten this years Foodnetwork Challenge winner??, etc. and I tend to use the rating system as a method for choosing a recipe, BUT I have to admit how the steam blows out of my ears when what do I find when I read the comments and reviews sections - a BLOG about how much people don?t like the particular 'cook, chef, what have you' and how they altered the recipe so far that it doesn?t, in the slightest way, resembled the original. - Like taking THIS RECIPE for example - I have found NO HELPFUL FEED BACK WHAT SO EVER!! If there is one thing FN.com needs to do, its filter out all of the opinionated, incompetent comments that benefit no one!! IT clearly states in the NAME of the recipe BUTTER cookie, not SUGAR COOKIE. Could that be why it doesn't taste like an over sweetened confection, or crumble when you eat it like those pre-made dough rolls. YES I have made these cookies, and you no what the recipe, just like others I've made turned out just as good as I thought they would and I enjoy them very much. SO please, when you make it a point to review a recipe, please make it about helpful information and not a complaint file about the cook, or their show and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don?t change them so much that a braised shank of veal turns into a hot dog with mac and cheese!!

I admit that I have not made the cookies-they looked cute in the picture.
The temp to bake is 350 for about 8-10 minutes which is sort of hidden
in the narrative. The big problem is that there is no leavening agent so you
would end up with blobs. Perhaps Gina & Pat were too busy doing whatever
they do in the kitchen to notice a major flaw--they don't even do that well.

The recipe DOES give the degree to bake the cookies at. Maybe you didn't like the cookie because you didn't really take the time to read the recipe and follow the directions. Love the cookies and the Neely's and my kids enjoyed them tremendously!
