I love this cookie. The powder sugar makes them light, and the simple recipe can be whipped up anytime. Most people have ingredients on hand all the time. It's a great cookie for the grandkids to make!

I was so disappointed to see the criticism of the Neely's baking/cooking ability. I LOVE to watch them cook and interract! And their recipe collection has ingredients familiar to everyone and easy to find in the grocery unlike many you see. So I say " GO NEELY'S!" And to those with criticism, a cookie review area is not the venue for your vent. Get some Christmas spirit and lay off the negativisms! These are simple, delicious cookies. Perfect for whipping up and easy enough for grandparents to make with their grandchildren.

I happen to like trying out other sugar/butter cookie recipies to see if I can improve mine. And I was glad to see this one because I need a recipe for tonite to bake for a day care benefit tomorrow and I forgot my list at home. (I just can't run home and get it and go back to the store......a minimum of 45 min to do this. And some cookies or to extra ordinary for me I just past them up, the ingredients are not in my area. Can't wait to try the Dried Cherry and Almond cookies, but I have to wait till I go to a bigger grocery store, since the sea salt is not around here. So, YEA for a simple butter cookie recipe. And Merry Christmas to all. (Next time I watch the Neely's I will be more observant to the Pig Decor in the Kitchen.

These are just same old sugar cookies...nothing outstanding about them. And, they didn't even include the degree to bake the cookies...so I just used the same as for my usual sugar cookies. Everyone said they liked mine a lot better and never make these again!

I always look forward too simple ingredients recipes. Especially this year because of husbands layoff last month lookiing at simple ways to celebrate the holidays and looking for economical ways to have our annual holiday cookie baking, more bakers available this year but not alot of $ to bake with...
Thanks for anyway to celebrate economically.....but a way to make memories

It says "butter cookie" which to me is more like a shortbread cookie, very different from a sugar cookie so I also am disappointed but for two reasons. The cookie is not what I thought it would be and like others, I have tons of recipes for sugar cookies...what makes this one special? I am sure the Neely's have plenty of other great cookie recipes we would like to try!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with some of the other comments. I, ALSO, look forward to the 12 days of Christmas cookie recipes from the Food Network as these are people with a "very special" talent! However, the only interesting one, so far, has been Giada's. Adding lemon juice to a gingerbread recipe is hardly that exciting, although it might give it a little different flavor. I think we've ALL been making cut-out sugar cookies with our own children when they were little or now our grandchildren. Last year was extremely disappointing and this year isn't going too well, either. Hopefully, it will get better - we have 9 more to go! When I put out Christmas cookies, I want them to be soooooo very special and, usually, some that no one has ever seen and will ask me for the recipe as I do when I eat something so special either because of the taste or the way it looks or, hopefully, BOTH!

I am glad the Food Network includes a few simple favorites. The first year of the 12 days of cookies the recipies had so many arcane ingredients and were so unfamiliar I lost my zeal for trying most of them. A balance is good - some wow! recipies and some simple familiar ones or twists on old favorites. I particularly like that this one uses powdered sugar instead of granulated. I've never made butter cookies with powdered sugar before. Wonder if they are more melt in your mouth like. Well, anyway I am going to try them. Almond flavoring is nice in butter cookies as well.

They are certainly entertaining to watch. I've only cooked one of their recipes before, but it did turn out wonderful: banana stuffed french toast. Certainly more of a "decadent dessert" sugary/carb dish, instead of a main course, but delicious just the same! I have several sugar cookie recipes, but have yet to find the perfect one. Maybe I'll try this one... As for a unique cookie idea, look-up "nut horn crescent cookies" anywhere online, and enjoy! There are many variations, but the type my Mom has made for over 25 years is my favorite Christmas cookie!
