I found this online and made it this morning for an office potluck. From start to finish it took about 30 minutes and garnered rave reviews from my coworkers. I doubled the recipe and it fed 12 hungry people with NO leftovers. I didn't alter the ingredients or add anything other than what was stated. I will definitely make it again and have already shared the weblink with others so they can make this as well. Thanks Neelys!

I literally just pulled this recipe off my stove after watching Gina and Pat make it this weekend, and my son has eaten more than half already. My husband isn't even home yet!!! My son thinks bacon and potatoes are the foods of the Gods and now I'm in trouble because this will be the side dish of choice for him! As for the PDA from Gina and Pat (u-hem Ellen from TX.....all I can say is "YOU GO GIRL"!!! My husband and I cook together ALL THE TIME and we act exactly the same way. For anyone that is offended by it...IT'S CALLED LOVE PEOPLE!!!! Get over it....keep showin' the love girls!!!!!!!

P.S. Has anyone been offended by Paula Deen butchering the English language, Y'ALL??? Don't get me wrong...I love her too, she's one of my faves but you can't single one out without the other....GET OVER ELLEN FROM TX!!!!!!

I tried this last night. Didn't have white vinegar so I used apple cider. I also substituted chives for dill. We really enjoyed this but I had to add more sugar than recipe indicated.

The Neelys enjoy cooking, they enjoy each other. There is nothing wrong with showing that or the way they speak. If it bothers people then this is not the show to watch - no comment necessary. If you don't like the recipe, or have suggestions to change then posting those comments is fine. But on the discussion involving German Potato salad. Not everyone has tasted German Potato salad so just because the recipe is similiar doesn't necessarily mean that they took it from that. Anyone can come up with a recipe to suit their tastes and it may be similiar or even the same as another recipe. Its not insulting to anyone. Its just life - who says that only one person ever came up with the same idea?

After reading you comment and all the other comments, I have to say. Who are you to say that the Neelys don't speak proper English. Please take a look at your comment, you can't spell. You spelled mustard and gestures incorrect. And as far as you having to throw your dish away, maybe it's your cooking and not the recipe. Everyone else loved it and you say your dish didn't turn out right. Maybe you can't cook.

Ladies, never once did either one of them call this "German Potato Salad". Yes, some of the ingredients are used in both versions. I watched and also want to add enjoyed the entire episode. I personally loved the way this dish tasted. If you do not care for some of the ingredients or think possibly there is a little much of something, use another recipe or modify to you and your families taste. Truly, that is the way I was taught to cook by my Maw-Maw and Mother & Daddy. It has not failed me yet. Hope you all have a good day and "SMILE" Sydney from Texas

I tried this recipe and loved it. Was just right. Everyone loved it..down to the pickiest eaters. I guess what has really got my goat on this particular recipe is the comments made my Ellen in Texas. Do you know that I day dream about true romance when I watch these two cook together. The true affection and respect they have for each other. How good they are to their families and friends. I don't know what I would give to have one day like that in my house. I'm sure she hits him upside the head with a frying pan every once in a while if that makes you feel better..oops that was incorrect english...my bad!!!! Please lady, live and let live. Its Down Home with the Neelys, not Gina and Pat do Dallas! Let them love each other and I love to watch them. Hats off to you guys!! Here's to many more years of health and happiness for you and your family! The piggies too!

I cook quite a bit but hadn't this before. Bacon makes anything ymmmy.

I have gotten hooked on watching you both in the kitchen. You are FUN to watch. The viewer easily can see "how" something is to be put together in an easy to follow and remember way. I can't resist trying out most of what you bring to the program.

Ellen in TX - My mother's words come back to me at times: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Get out of your own backyard and experience the diversity of the world around you which is the true spice of life!
