It was pretty good. I used oyster sauce in place of the sugar, used 4 garlic cloves, I used celery salt instead of regular salt, and then used beef broth in place of the water. I also added about 1/2 tsp of ground fennel and simmered for about 45 minutes. If the tomato sauce is overcooked it gets that acidic flavor.
Then you didn't make this recipe at all. If you're going to rate a recipe then make the recipe your claiming to rate.
We loved it so much I looked up her recipe and made it again - this time I simmered it in the slow cooker and it was even better.
Made it again with 3 pounds of hamburger and was still amazing - love the meatiness, flavor is an A+++
This is extremely easy. I browned up ground beef, Italian sausage and onions first. Then I added that with all the other ingredients (except for the sugar in my crockpot and cooked on low for 4 hours. My family doesn't like sweet spaghetti sauce, so I kept out the sugar and it was perfect.
Loved this one!! Had it last night and I ate way too much!! Stuffed and Happy in Florida!
+1 to zucchini and only one TBL. sugar. Great sauce, super easy. Very nice with homemade pasta!
This recipe is so easy, tasty and always gets good reviews from friends. I've made this recipe about 8-10 times now, and turns out great each time. I usually end up freezing 1/2 of it, because it makes a good amount and reheats deliciously.
I love this recipe but I don't like my sauce to sweet so watch the sugar to taste.I only put in 1 tablespoon.I used my own tomatoes from the garden and it worked out great.
This is by far my favorite speghetti sauce - and so easy. The only thing I do differenly is chop the stewed tomatoes. I tried the small diced tomatoes but I was surprised that i could taste the difference. Highly recommended!
I was tired of the canned pasta sauces so tried this one. It is delicious! It is easy to put together and doesn't take long to cook. I have also frozen and vaccuum sealed this sauce for future meal.
I really love this recipe iv'e made it twice already. my family really love it! I'm gonna keep this. :~
When I normally make spaghetti I make it a totally different way...Mom's way. But this sauce from SCRATCH was so easy to make. It taste much better if you make your own Italian seasoning (which is extremely easy as well and I'd suggest only 1 tablespoon of sugar because the first time I made it with 2 tablespoons, as instructed, and the sweetness took away from that hint of spice you hope for in Italian foods. Overall it's a great recipe for beginners, such as myself, to get comfortable and confident preparing their own meals with fresh ingredients.
Let me just say, the first time I tried this recipe, I replaced the tomato paste with more diced tomatoes, and I left out the green bell peppers; both only because I didn't have them. The second time I had everything. The only difference was that I added an extra clove of garlic because I love it, and I only added 1 lb of ground beef because I was too lazy to separate another package. It came out great, even with the same amount of everything else! The paste made it the right, thick consistency, and the peppers add liquid and flavor. It is more sweet than canned "red sauce", but I like it because of that. It's different. It's hearty and I love veggies. Pure sauce would be kind of a bore to me. If I can do it, and have my boyfriend ask for seconds, you can make it and love it, too!
It's really good, maybe a little too sweet for spaghetti sauce, but super easy to make and definitely better than store bought sauce!!!
It's so easy to make and it taste SOOOOOO much better than jarred/canned sauce.
Awesome!! I won't be buying out of a can ever again!
Best Spaghetti Sauce recipe for sure and it doesn't take long to make. I did simmer an hour instead of 30 minutes and added 1 lb of ground beef and 1/2lb of Hot Italian Sausage. Delicious!!
This is a no fail recipe. It freezes well and can be used with any pasta. I also use it for lasagna. Thanks, Paula and Alice Jo!
Made this tonight and followed the recipe exactly, only I threw in diced zucchini, added a little extra of both garlic and Italian seasoning. I think the sugar and the worcestershire make a difference. I wouldn't skip out on it. This is definitely the best homemade spaghetti sauce I've made yet. You can definitely taste the layers in this one. I'm saving it!
My husband and I had never made homemade spaghetti sauce, but are trying to be healthier, so we wanted to give it a try. This is the one we tried, and we LOVE it! We are making this one from here on out!
Absolutely incredible! I've been on the search for a great spaghetti sauce that will "wow" people. This is the one! It's so full of flavor and the aroma while it cooks makes my mouth water. Delicious! I can stop searching for a great spaghetti sauce now. My husband raved about this sauce he loved it so much. I am looking forward to making this again to serve to company.
I was a bit confused as to how much Worcestershire sauce I should add, since there is no quantity listed. So I skipped that and the green peppers, and used a couple cut up tomatoes instead of stewed ones. All in all, quite a tasty sauce!
I gave this 4 stars because I think this recipe is good as a base to start my own sauce. This is reminiscent of my mother's sauce she used to take all day to cook but sweeter and quicker. I doctored the recipe, using two 28 oz. cans of crushed San Marzano tomatoes instead of the sauce & stewed in the recipe. It makes the sauce a bit sweeter and more of a true meat SAUCE. I also let it cook longer than 30 minutes (usually I let it simmer for at least an hour, covered to avoid evaporation to allow all of the flavors to come together. This time I will be used ground italian sausage instead of ground beef...I will update after dinner... :-
This is a fantastic recipe and QUICK. I substituted 1 lb. of ground turkey and the tomatoes I used had Italian spices in them. I still added the italian seasoning, though. I also left out the green pepper (as I like them but they don't like me. So easy and good. I cannot imagine what happened with jen.e.b and her attempt (maybe next time only use half of the Italian spices. Give it another try. Thanks, Paula! I'll be making this again and again. Thinking of using the leftovers on pizza crust and top with parmesean & mozzarella cheese. How about just making the sauce, leaving out the ground beef and adding meatballs to it........hmmmm!! :-
SUPER disappointed. After having really great spaghetti sauce at a friends house this week, I was inspired...this sauce is incredibly herby tasting. Feels like you stuck a garden in your mouth. My husband (who literally eats anything tried it and said "Well, it's at least edible...." Serving a dinner party in a few hours...going to try to salvage this so Im not completely embarrassed.
This is an amazing recipe!! I added a can of rotel and more garlic.
This spagetti sauce is the best I have ever eaten! Very, Very Good!
Best spaghetti sauce...My family just loves it!!!
I made it once and now my husband won't let me buy spaghetti sauce. The whole family loves it. We have froze the left over and it was great the flovers wow. Won't go back the best sauce I have every made. I use brown sugar in it too. I cannot say enough about this recipe
Yummy! I have made this sauce 2 times already, but I did change a few things. I do not put the stewed tomatoes or bell peppers. My husband does not like bell peppers and I don't like the big pieces of tomatoes. I also add more garlic. But you have to season it to Your taste! Very good recipe!
