6 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

1/2 cup slivered almonds, chopped fine

2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls

1 egg white

1 teaspoon water

Glaze:

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

4 teaspoons milk

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, almond extract, and sugar until fluffy. Fold half of the chopped almonds into the cream cheese mixture. Separate 1 can of dough and assemble into 4 rectangles. Firmly press the perforations to seal. Press or roll each piece of dough to form a 7 by 4-inch rectangle, and spread each with about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese filling to within 1/4-inch of the edges. Starting at the short end, roll each rectangle tightly into a cylinder. Repeat with the other can of dough and remaining filling.

Place on a plate, cover with plastic wrap, and chill until firm, about 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F while the rolls are chilling.

Remove from the refrigerator and cut each roll into 4 slices. Place 1/2-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. In a small bowl, combine the egg white with 1 teaspoon water. Brush over the swirls. Sprinkle with the remaining chopped almonds. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until light brown.

While the swirls are baking, combine the glaze ingredients in a small bowl. Cool the swirls for 3 minutes on wire racks placed over a sheet of waxed paper. Drizzle the icing over the warm swirls.

    Thank You PAULA!

Don't get me wrong I love Paula, but she's not very known for healthy eating. These are one of the few desserts she makes... that doesn't call for 3 sticks of butter. These are very delicious and I love the almond flavor in the creamcheese. I like to use the less fat crescent rolls. and the 1/3 less fat cream cheese. I also like to tweak the recipe sometimes and I like to put frozen berries that I cooked over low heat and sweetened with a lilttle sugar inside the crescent roll with the cream cheese to give a delicious berry finish. AWESOME Little Sweet Rolls!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I loved these little rolls. I made them for a ladies luncheon with some of my mother's friends. I changed it up a bit and... they were great. I toasted the almonds until golden brown and then crushed them up, and I added some orange zest to the cream cheese mixture, and orange extract instead of almond extract in the glaze. I served them with quiche, fresh fruit salad and bellinii's! All my mom's friends loved it!Read more

    Great for kids to help!

Me and my sister made these all by ourselves for my dad on fathers day. my dad still had to work that day but he got to come... home early which was around noon. so we made them for lunch and it was SUPER easy. But, it was still really really good. me and my sister didnt really like the taste of the almond extract so i would use vanilla instead. its ok to substitute with vanilla while using almond. i used vanilla instead of almond when making macaroons. i would say they tasted sooooo much better.
