I served this to my extended family (23 people at Easter and everyone LOVED it. I served it as a strawberry shortcake with fresh cut strawberries and whipped cream.

I made this beautiful cake along with the almond cream-cheese icing recipe and my husband said it was the best cake he had ever tasted! I agree! I took pieces of it for my co-workers to try and they raved about it. The combination of almond and orange is now my favorite (now I even use a little almond extract in my orange cupcake recipe. I also found out a local bakery uses the orange-almond flavor combination in their holiday Spritz cookie recipe! The texture of this cake is just right - dense and yet not overly heavy - a very fine texture. Be careful tho - I could not control myself - I kept sampling the cake batter - it was addicting!

This recipe is wonderful, i had to make some changes, i added 4 large eggs instead of 6. 1/1/2 cup of sugar instead of 3 and the pound cake was just wonderful once i made the changes. i served it with rasberry sauce and yogurt. sooooooo good
thanks Paula

This recipe is included as a bonus recipe in Paula's Kitchen Classics cookbook, she has a chapter with a collection of recipes served at her recent wedding. I was a little reluctant of the orange extract at first because of how it might taste with the almond extract and sour cream, but this pound cake is outstanding! Very dense, moist, and flavorful with a slight hint of orange and very appropriate as a wedding cake. The recipe in her cookbook includes a to-die-for creamy homemade almond icing that really works well with this cake (and probably any other cake - this icing is THAT good!. I'm not sure why this website omitted the almond icing recipe. Thanks Paula!

I first made this recipe for my dad's birthday. It was such a hit that I now have to make it for every family get together. I must say that this recipe is now my favorite pound cake recipe. It's easy to make, and if you follow it to a "T", you'll have the perfect pound cake too. I like to change up the extracts and make different combinations. Try using lemon instead of the almond extract, and you'll have a refreshing treat!

This cake was delicious. I haven't used almond extract in a cake before so I was a little reluctant, however the cake turned out great.

Paula, when I saw this cake made on your show last night, I just had to try it this morning. I wanted to see if it was better than my recipe....it wasn't. The recipe I make is decades old and was clipped from a magazine. An elderly gentleman from the south won a Blue Ribbon for it. It has a little more flour, twice the butter (giggle, milk instead of the sour cream and some freshly grated nutmeg as flavoring. I gave each of my daughters a chunk of yours to try it. Paula, I've been enjoying your shows each and every day! Keep up the good work, girl! You and Michael make a great couple!
