Very nice! Love the little bit of tart that comes from the apple butter in this recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I NEVER BAKED MY PIES AT 425 IVE ALWAYS BAKED THE PIES 400 FOR THE 1ST 15 MINUTES THEN 350 AFTER THAT THEY TURNED OUT GREAT item not reviewed by moderator and published
Okay, Food Network, give me back this recipe!!!! It's one of my favorites and a frequent go-to. When I click to see the full recipe or try to print, I get ... cooks notes. No ingredients, no directions, no cook time. Nothin!!!!! Please fix this. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Pumpkin pie has always been my favorite. I never thought it could get any better than that. Well, folks, it can! Enter the pumpkin pie with the smoothest texture and best, most complex flavor of any pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. I will never go back! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I make this pie every fall. My family and I love it. I've been a pumpkin pie fanatic since i was a very young child and now I'm in my early twenties and look forward to baking this recipe every year. This year my 5 year old son will be accompanying me like the many years I baked with my grand-mom. This is a great twist on a traditional family favorite. Thank you so much Paula for this wonderful recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pie was amazing using apple butter. I made this pie according to the recipe, but I made a few changes.....I mixed 1 ~ 8 ounce pkg cream cheese with 1/4 c sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla and a few egg yolks together. I used a deep dish pie plate and placed the crust in the pie plate. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top of the crust. Add the apple butter pumpkin pie filling and bake. I baked my pie at 350* for about an hour and a half. The apple butter takes the pie to a new level and the cream cheese filling brings it to a whole new dimension. Delish ~ my family devoured it in no time. item not reviewed by moderator and published
A very good pie, with a combination of flavors unlike any pie I have ever made (which are, in truth, not that many. I made it without a crust so that my relatives with gluten allergies were able to indulge. It was very easy to make, but the other pie I made (blueberry was more of a hit. This pie was a tad sweeter than I would prefer. Overall, it is still a recipe I would recommend. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Beautiful color, great texture, awful taste..... I will do it again but use a pumpkin pie spice mix instead of what it calls for! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My m-i-l made this pie for me. It was delicious. Funny thing, though...thinking she had seen the recipe before, she looked in her "old" Farm Journal Country Cookbook (copyright 1972; still available on Amazon and there was the word-for-word identical recipe. Hmmm! Paula didn't say where she got her recipe (she was just 25 years old in 1972, years and years from being famous. Farm Journal didn't say where they got their recipe. I ain't pointin' no fingers or nothing. I thought it was interesting. And a very good pie! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this pie a few years back and now it is requested every thanksgiving now at three different houses lol started at my familys and now my friends want them too.. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was so easy to make and tasted fantastic. I've made this twice so far. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was my first ever attempt at making a pumpkin pie, I decided to get the pumpkin from scratch which isn't that hard to do and I used fresh ginger. This pie was a hit with my family and friends. This one is definitely a keeper. : item not reviewed by moderator and published
Paula, youre amazing!! Delish! My mom LOVED IT! : Great Pie! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was my first attempt at any kind of pumpkin pie, not only did it turn out but it turned out great! Everyone said it was the best pumpkin pie they had ever had. item not reviewed by moderator and published
one of my favorites to make on holidays, never can seem to make enough because it's always a hit and always gone! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I loved this pie! If you like apple butter and pumpkin, it's perfect! I made this a few years back and I put the cool whip over the whole thing. It was delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I wanted to make a holiday pie with a twist and this was it! I made this pie and took it into my office. Once it was cut, it disapeared within minutes. What a huge hit. And it was easy to make. I think my favorite thing about this recipe was how the apple butter lightened the consistency of the pie. Pumpkin pies are usually heavy and rich. The apple flavor was a nice change too. I will definitely make this pie again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I like a pumpkin pie to look pretty and orange. The apple butter made it dark and brownish. The flavor was just okay for me. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was so simple and a big hit with my family! The apple butter provides such full flavor to the pumpkin pie without being overwhelming. I'll definitely make this again and again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I like apple butter and I like pumpkin pie, but I not a fan of them together. item not reviewed by moderator and published
The apple butter adds a slightly different flavor to a traditional pumpkin pie. It's a little sweet, but the apple isn't overwhelming, so it's very good if you are a little tired of the same old thing every year. The only down side is that it leaves a lot less apple butter to put on your biscuits! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It's the best frikin pumpkin pie I ever tasted!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Best pumpkin pie I ever tasted. I used fresh pumpkin that we picked at Apple Annie's Orchard in Wilcox, AZ. item not reviewed by moderator and published
We loved apple butter pumpkin pie, although the recipe calls for too much nutmeg, I am not a nutmeg fan, but a little is necessary. Will certainly make this again item not reviewed by moderator and published
When i made this, the family complained about the integrity, and spiciness of the pie. They said it was almost too robust, however I feel that the apple butter and various spices added a nice wholesome flavor to the pie. Please try it for yourself, I myself would recommend it to anyone. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was my first experience baking pumpkin pie and it was a success! everyone loves it ... thank you Paula item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was a great recipe! I didn't have all the ingredients on hand, so I improvised and it turned out wonderful. I didn't have apple butter, so I used some applesauce and some gingerbread dip I bought at a gourmet store. I didn't have ground ginger, so I used allspice in its place. I also didn't have evaporated milk, but using whole milk worked just as well. I will keep this recipe and use it over and over again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easy to make. I make it every year for thanksgiving and christmas. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is such an easy recipe for how great it tastes. I don't bake much at all, I tend to burn most things in the oven. I tried this last year and had many compliments, decided to try a lattice crust on it this year. If you are supposed to bring a dessert somewhere this holiday season, try this pie. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was an amazing pie. It was very simple to put together and came out exactly as it should. The apple butter just added a wonderfully different dimension of flavor instead of just the normal plain ol' pumpkin pie (I used a homemade apple butter that was given to me as a gift - YUM YUM). It will remain in my recipe box and be the one I pass on to my friends. Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
this was the BEST pie at Thanksgiving Dinner. Should have made another one. Thank Goodness it's easy to make. Will never make another normal pumpkin pie again. This will be my pumpkin pie recipe from now on item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought this was a different spin on a classic. I love it. Needless to say, everyone else wanted the classic. Just to let you know that I thought it was very unique, tasty and had a hmmmm to it. Thanks for sharing this recipe with the world. item not reviewed by moderator and published
We had this for our early ThanksTurkey Day dinner and it was great. Even better, though, was this peek at the Good Ol' Paula - - back when she was REAL. No blue hair and orange face. Paula, I love YOU, not this phoney gal who has hijacked your show!!! We want PAULA back!!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Amazing pumkin pie!!! the best I have ever tasted and made!!! I made 8 apple butter pumpkin pies for my neighbors and they ALL loved it!!!! The neighbor across from me brought it to his mothers home and she cried in tears because it brought back memories of her childhood when her grandmother made pumpkin pie..she said it tasted just like it!!! IT'S A WINNER..enjoy the recipe it was worth every hour in the kitchen!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
PAULA, YOU ALWAYS OUT DO YOURSELF! I LOVE THIS APPLE PUMPKIN PIE! IT WAS A HIT AT DINNER! :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
Overall, this recipe was just good. On the plus side, it was super easy and quick to make. I had all the ingredients on hand. On the negative side, my husband said that it was a little overspiced (and I had added LESS nutmeg than called for but had two more pieces the next day and said that it tasted better after sitting. I love apple butter, but this just wasn't for me. The flavors didn't meld like they did in my mind. Good recipe for a quick fix, but will not be taking to Thanksgiving dinner. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pie was easy to make and very tasty. I had a whole pumpkin that I broke down to puree and no idea how to make pie. It was great for a first pie. I even found some pumpkin butter, when I went to the store for apple butter, and tried that. Both pies were very tasty and had a wonderful texture. It encouraged me to experiment and try some more difficult pies. Thank you Mrs. Deen! :) item not reviewed by moderator and published

I made the Libby pumpkin pie for years and years. Then I happened to see Paula's Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie. My Mom loved pumpkin pie and I made this recipe one year and she was so impressed. She would even request it during the year, not just at Thanksgiving. I do not understand why this pie is only showing four stars. It should have at least 10!!!! Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Really good pie, has a different taste (that's good) from regular pumpkin pie. The apple butter seems to diminish the ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg somewhat. We enjoyed it for a switch! item not reviewed by moderator and published

My kids shared in making this recipe last year and it was a really big hit. It was so much of a hit that one daughter ate a whole pie by herself prior to the holdidays. We are gearing up to make quite a few more than we did last year for this years holiday feast. item not reviewed by moderator and published

I have been looking for a recipe to utilize some extra apple butter i have so I decided to give this one a try. I loved it! I omitted the ginger because i was out, and i cooked it for an hour at 400. I covered the crust about half way through to insure no burning. simple and delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for Thanks Giving and people were fighting over it! I was also asked to make two for Christmas, which I did and again was a hit. You must make the candied nuts to go with it! Fantastic!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I read reviews of several recipes and decided this sounded best. I doubled the recipe making it easier to measure out the ingredients (1 15 oz can of pumpkin, 1 can of evaporated milk). It was short an ounce of pumpkin, but many of the reviews said the recipe was too runny so I figured a little less would be okay. I baked it an extra 5 minutes and it turned out perfect! Love the flavor, love how easy this was. Even my boyfriend has had seconds, and he's not a pumpkin pie person. Thanks Paula for another great recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love this recipe and have made it for the last two years at Thanksgiving. Here in VA, we love our apples and applebutter and pumpkin pie during the holidays. The two being combined is very good...rich, but soooooooooooo good. Thanks, Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Kudos to you Paula. I think this might now be my favortie pumpkin pie recipe now. A must try for all pumpkin pie lovers. Thank you!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

I shared recipe with daughter and nine year old g-daughter.....WONDERFUL! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Always shied away from pumpkin pies in favor of apple and pecan .... just never interested me when I had those other wonderful choices. Watched the TV show and saw how simple this was, and figured I had to try it. After watching Paula, I was even brave enough to double the recipe and make one for us and one as a treat for the neighbors. It was fabulous!! (I loved her hint about how to taste it with no one knowing!!) The apple butter ingredients keep the pumpkin from becoming too dense and heavy ... This receipe goes right into my permanent files! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Hate to say this but I could not get pass the first bite thank God I made another pumpkin pie the normal way. Thought maybe I would spring it on my favorite brother- n law but then was afraid of what he might do in retaliation. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love Apple Butter and Pumpkin but I guess I still just like the old pumpkin pies that Mom and Grany made. Tasted good though. . item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this recipe exactly as specified except I took the suggestions of some of the previous comments and only added 3/4 cup of Apple Butter and used a whole can of pumpkin (no need to waste and it fit the in the pan perfectly). The pie was delicious, but I really could not taste the apple butter. I would suggest using the whole can of pumpkin and the whole cup of apple butter. The pie also took about an hour to cook. I took this pie to a company pot luck and it was gone in 5 minutes. Several people asked for the recipe! Yum. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this pie last Thanksgiving and received rave reviews from the family. Will be making it again (maybe 2 of them) for Thanksgiving this year. It has the best flavor and apple butter really sets off the taste of the pie. One of the best recipes by Paula Deen. item not reviewed by moderator and published
best pumpkin pie ever! thanks paula. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I decided to take up baking and this was my very first attempt. I followed the recipe exactly and my pie turned out wonderfully. I believe one friend said that this pie had what pumpkin pies usually lack, which is something sweet and tart to take it from good to great! I made another one as a gift for friends and they absolutely loved it. Not sure why so many people are having a problem with runny mixtures, but I did let mine cool for a few hours and then stuck them in the refrigerator overnight to make sure they set properly. item not reviewed by moderator and published
After reading the previous comments I decided to add 1 extra egg white and a little less apple butter, it turned out great and is so light compared to other pumpkin pies. item not reviewed by moderator and published
If your apple butter and fresh pumpkin are a little too runny put each one in cheescloth and set in a strainer. Let excess water drain out. I let mine drain overnight. This will improve the quality of the pie texture considerably. Remember it will reduce the amount of the ingredient so use more in the cheesecloth to compensate. item not reviewed by moderator and published
so easy my girls wont eat pumkin but they ate this everyone love's it and have been asking for it since last year item not reviewed by moderator and published
I do make a lot of Paula Deen recipes. Some I like and some I do not. This one was not a good one. I offered this to everyone and they just stuck their nose up at it. I have made much better pies than this. A regular pumpkin pie recipe such as the famous "Libby's" is much better. I do a lot of baking for people and let them taste this and it was not a hit. Also, it does need to go into a deep dish pie shell. I'm not saying it was a disaster just not a hit. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pie was so easy to make and was absolutely delicious. A delicious twist on your ordinary pumpkin pie! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this cake yesterday for a holiday gathering. It was really good, I am not a big fan of pumpkin pie and I liked the twist on this one. I followed the suggestion using 1/2 cup of apple butter. I also used fresh pumpkin, I had a little more than a cup, so I went ahead and used it since I had used less apple butter. The flavor was great, the consistency not so much, it was a bit mushy. The instructions said to cook for 40 min, I cooked for 1 hr and I should have left it longer. Any suggestions? Should I cook longer or should I add an egg or something to improve the consistency? I will be making this again :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
I make this once a year whenever I have my yearly turkey dinner. It is always a hit and it goes quick. I would recommend making this with fresh pumpkin it is much better then the canned. :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
Not for the lactose intolerant, this recipe is soooo good. Should we expect anything else from Mrs. Paula? My daughter loved these cookies so much we made them two weekends in a row. If you like apples, butter, pumpkin and spice, these cookies are the jam. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was better then any other Pumpkin Pie I made. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this pie for two years now and everyone loves it every time! I even got a friend of mine who is not a big pumpkin fan two eat three slices! Thanks Paula. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this pie for Christmas dinner for the first time. I did read the other reviews and agreed that one cup of Apple Butter from the jar would make it too runny so I cut it in half and added an additional egg as well. I also switched out the sugar for a brown sugar Splenda blend and used the same amount. The pie was great. Excellent consistancy, the apple butter definitely gives it a tangy edge I liked. I also used a frozen pie shell instead of making if from scratch. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made this recipe several times as it's so easy and delicious. My only recommendation is to use a deep dish pie crust as the ingredients will overflow in a regular size pie crust. Love ya Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Easiest and best pumpkin pie! I make this for every holiday, and it's my husband's favorite dessert! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I used a very thick apple butter and just cut back on the other spices a little bit as not to overwhelm the pie with too much cinnamon and nutmeg.. My pie came out very well and the only thing I might change is the texture. I would like it to be more like a custard. If anyone knows how to do that I would love to try it. Make it an apple butter custard pie!!! Yummy item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this recipe the night before Thanksgiving but after reading the comments I cut the apple butter to 3/4 cup. The pie was beautiful when it cam out of the oven but by the next morning it had fallen and separated from the crust. Can anyone tell me how to prevent this in the future? The taste of the pie was delicious and I will try it again - maybe with a homemade crust. item not reviewed by moderator and published
but I made it for my Dad because he loves pumpkin pie. He loved it so that's all that matters. I tasted it and it sounds better than it tastes.. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It came out just fine. The crowd I cooked for loves apple pie and they love pumpkin pie - but they really preferred the two be kept separate; I agree. The pie was a bit too rich and dense. The next day, the apple flavor was so strong and trumped the pumpkin flavor. Not a favorite. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Unable to find apple butter, I used Pumpkin Butter (Trader Joe's). It was great. I used half a cup for each pie (I made two) and added allspice to the second pie. I also made my own vanilla whipped cream from a receipe found on this website. Was a hit with the whole family. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made a couple of little changes. I used a whole small jar of apple butter and then simmered it to 1 c. That made it thicker and more rich. I also used the whole can of pumpkin because I couldn't bring myself to throw out the itty bit that was left in the can. I covered the edges of the crust about 1/2 way through baking so it wouldn't burn. The pie was simply fantastic! Not too sweet and perfect with a cup of coffee. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I'm glad I read some of these reviews before attempting to make this pie. I grew up in an Amish-heavy community, so we always had fresh apple butter available at our farmer's markets. The apple butter I purchased in the store was WAY more runny and less thick than the apple butter of my youth. Apple butter should be rather thick, almost the consistency of peanut butter. You should NOT be able to pour it out of a jar (like the store-bought stuff I had to deal with). Instead of making this pie w/ 1 cup apple butter, I made it with 1/2 c. and kept all the other ingredients the same. It turned out GREAT with that extra flavor, and I would recommend cutting back on the apple butter if it looks more runny than thick. I would also recommend only using 2 eggs if you are working with extra large eggs. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I tried this recipe about three or four years ago and my family loves it. Though I love pumpkin anything, the rest of my family isn't quite as enthusiastic as I am. So when I came accross this recipe, it sounded interesting. This will be my fourth year making it and everyone is looking forward to it. The apple pumpkin combo is a great representation of the harvest season's flavors that most people can enjoy. As a side note, I do put in just a touch less apple butter that the recipe calls for so that the pumpkin is a little more noticeable and so that the filling is a bit less runny. I would certainly recommend giving this one a try! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I haven,t tried it yet but after discussing it with my family we're going to try it. I'll let you know how it is. Happy T-Day. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this pie last year for thanksgiving, and everyone loved it! although they werent buying that i thought it up my self and knew it was yours =D but over all its better the the original pumpkin and is allways a big hit. people now allways say "you are making the pie again right??" great job with this pie Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I did a trial run last night on this recipe (before I took it to our family dinner!) and it was WONDERFUL! It will now be our family's standard pumpkin pie recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published

The pie never made it 40 minutes @ 425f. It bubbled over and burned. What did I do wrong item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my family at Christmas much better response than I got from the regular pumpkin pies. Also I suggest caramelizing some pecans with brown sugar and crush them as a crust on the top of the pie, it really went over well. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Never made any kind of pie before but, when I saw Paula make this one on TV and how easy it was, I decided to make it and bring it to my Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. Since I never made a pie before I wasn't sure exactly how it should look before I took it out of the oven - but it was as easy to prepare as it had looked on TV. Everything went very well and it was a big hit at our holiday dinner. When my niece told my mom that "aunt Maureen made the pie", my Mom (without missing a beat) promptly replied "no she didn't!" We had a laugh about that and then took a few minutes to "guess the secret ingredient"; Mom came closest with applesauce. Then we all dug in. The texture of this pumpkin pie is a bit creamier/smoother than one that is all pumpkin and, although the taste is very slightly different, I don't think it detracts from traditional pumpkin pie much at all. It was a definite success and I will make it again. Another "bonus": Because I'd never made pie before, I used frozen store-bought crusts. Since there were two in a package, and the canned milk & pumpkin were double the recipe, I just made two pies the Tuesday night before Thanskgiving. That way I had one to try first (and keep) and another to take to Mom's. Worked out great. Thanks, Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
this recipe has been used many times during the holidays and is always a big hit. item not reviewed by moderator and published
The apple butter gave a funny aftertaste. I did not enjoy this pie. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I don't eat apple butter much but I could eat this pie everyday. The apple butter just gives this wonderful kick to an already favorite pie! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for thanksgiving because no one in the family really cares for pumpkin pie and they do like apple pie. I thought this would satisfy them as well as keep the tradition of pumpkin pie at thanksgiving going. Unfortunately you oould not tell that there was any apple anything in this pie. Don't waste your money on apple butter you will probably never use again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I whole-heartedly agree with those who have given this recipe 5 stars. It is a great variation of traditional pumpkin pie. I made this for Thanksgiving, and everyone raved about it - not to mention that it was gone way before the other pies, including the traditional pumpkin! From now own, this is the only pumpkin pie I plan to bake. It's easy, absolutely delicious, and I know it has already become a family favorite. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Like several others, this will be my only pumpkin pie recipe from now on. I made it after Thanksgiving and my husband loved it!! My cousin also said it was the only one for her. The hint of apple is great. It's not too much pumpkin flavor as a regular recipe. Nice going, Paula... item not reviewed by moderator and published
My six year old was determined to make Paula Dean's Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie after seeing it on one of the Thanksgiving specials. It was so easy that she only needed a little help with the measuring, but did the rest herself. The results were fantastic. Everyone said it was the best pumpkin pie they had ever eaten. Note: We did use homemade pastry instead of store bought. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was easy and so yummy, I will make it again and again. The apple butter added a little hint of flavor that all the guests were trying to figure out. It was great. item not reviewed by moderator and published
