No flavor, dry and sixty minutes is to long for this recipe. Maybe someone should change the recipe, there is obviously something worn with it/

I have made a similar recipe for applesauce bread and it is not a seeet sweet bread....drk brown sugar is not nearly as sweet as light brown or white. Try a combo of half lght brn and white...also use a butter flavored shortening as opposed to butter as butter makes it much more dense and not as moist. I love butter just about as much as Paula does, but I have found that sometimes it just doesn't give a light moist texture in breads and muffins the same way that shortening does.

I love the Food Network and most of its wonderful cooks/chefs. I am sorry I did not read the reviews of this recipe before making this recipe. Normally everything that looks good on the show, tastes good. I was very excited to try this because it was from Paula. I was very surprised and totally frustrated. I thought I did not do something correct or missed an ingredient somehow. This couldn't be. The bread was very dry and no flavor at all. It crumbled completely. We DID eat it with the help of some butter because we don't waste in our house. I will not make this again. I threw the recipe out as I do when something is not appealing. It was a waste of time and ingredients. I will go back to my old Applesauce Nut Bread recipe that I have from an apple orchard. I don't quite understand how so many people had great success with this recipe while so many others like myself did not have such a fortunate experience.

    Otherwise, I love Paula.

I saw Paula fix this on TV, it looked amazing so I looked up the receipe and read the reviews. Thank heavens..
This is what I did to the receipe.
Firt the receipe is missing SALT. I have never baked anything in my life without salt. I put about a 1/4 tsp of salt. I put in 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. I took out the allspice (I don't care for it
instead I used nutmeg. I also chopped up a large apple and added it. I used 3 Tbsps of milk. I mixed everything up and it was really dry so I added about 1/2 cup of water until the batter was really nice and moist. I turned the oven temp down to 325 and increased the cooking time to about 75 minutes. I just took it out of the oven. I just tried a slice and it is AMAZING, it is moist, sweet and wonderful. I think the salt totally brings it all togeter. I will definately make it again.

I hope this helps everyone to figure out what was missing.

I thought this bread was a little dry and not very sweet. Without the apple butter/cream cheese spread this would not be good at all to me. I don't think I will make it again.

After reading the reviews, I'm not going to even try making this. Why on earth would anyone make something that needs so much doctoring? What's the point? You might as well use another recipe from someone else. Better yet, use an apple bread or apple muffin mix from the store. I just made Jiffy apple cinnamon muffins from the box this morning and they were awesome. Way easier, way faster, way cheaper, and at least you know it will taste good.

I've made this bread several times. I?ve had different outcomes pending the modifications I made to Ms. Paula's original recipe. First, I always add a little white sugar; I usually do about a 1part brown and 1part white (total =1/3cup. Also, the bread tends to be a bit dry, so I usually add about a tbsp or so of orange juice. Last, for added interested and yummy excitement, I add fresh (or frozen during the winter months blueberries! I tell you, it's my favorite thing to make on weekend mornings!

I make this for my invalid mother-in-law, who loves it. I can't give this recipe 5 stars, because it does need adjustments. I use 1 1/2 cups applesauce instead of 1 cup, add 1/2 cup white sugar, and instead of raisins, I use craisins (dried cranberries. Make the apple butter spread for this--you won't be disappointed.
