good. brushed a mixture of a cup of water with one teabag on the tops of the CAKES. added more lemon to the icing to distract from the butter. after my tweaks tasted good. :

I was disappointed with this recipe. I love Paula Deen but this recipe is no where close to being an Arnold Palmer. The batter makes for a good spice muffin and I would have to agree with the other reviews on the frosting, it was not good.

If I could do this again, here's what I'd try (and I'm no baking expert, so this is purely based off of hunches:
    - I would cut the sugar in the frosting. The frosting is WAY too buttery and sugary. As it is, I already cut almost half of it, actually added lemon and salt, and it is still too sweet. Not to mention that the butter was hard to stir (and hard to digest. I wonder if there's a different way to thicken it aside from literally just using two sticks of butter? (I also had way too much frosting left over after I covered my cupcakes/cake.
    - I tasted barely ANY tea in the cake. I would up the amount of tea bags I use next time. And the amount of lemon juice.
    - I would also cut the sugar in the batter (as well as the frosting next time, too. All I taste in the cake is sugar -- no tea.

If I didn't tell anyone what it was supposed to taste like, I think they'd still enjoy it - but disappointing for Arnold Palmer lovers!

I have been very impressed with ALL of Paula Deans recipe's until this one. The cupcake tasted like it was "almost" a spice cake. The t.v. show said plain tea bag and the recipe said black tea bag. I made it both ways and they were both strange. The frosting was not the correct ratios and it also tasted like it was close to something but not quite it. I am very amazed that it took that much butter and didnt have a better taste. Maybe we can find a way to use sweet tea and lemonade for some of the liquids. The concept is good...the product leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry Paula!

Unfortunately, I agree with most the other reviews. I was so excited to try this, but it was a waste of time. I wish I had checked out the reviews before starting. The muffin texture was not good, they are blah, and I had to add about three times the amount of powder sugar to get the frosting to the right consistency. I agree that this recipe should be removed. It's a great concept and should be fixed!

Wish I hadn't wasted a pound of butter and an hour in the kitchen. Boring, bland and unremarkable. Strange texture on the cupcakes (more like muffins and too much liquid in the frosting. This recipe needs to be removed and retooled.

I made this into a two layer cake, but added allspice and extra lemon zest and juice to the cake. The frosting I made a traditional buttercream frosting but with the extra tea milk and extra lemon juice. My kids loved it. Thanks Paula for yet another great recipe.

I'm a huge fan of the refreshing drink called an Arnold Palmer. When I saw this recipe, I knew I had to make them. I wish I had read all the reviews before trying out these cupcakes; they were an absolute let down and disappointment.

I CUT THE RECIPE IN HALF AND GOT SOME SIMILAR RESULTS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD- MY BATTER WAS VERY RUNNY AND AFTER IT WAS DONE BAKING- IT CAME OUT FEELING LIKE RUBBER, THEN THE FROSTING WAS EVEN MORE RUNNY AND I DIDN'T EVEN ADD ALL OF THE TEA/MILK MIXTURE THAT IT CALLED FOR.THE TASTE WAS BLAND FOR THE CAKE PART AND THE FROSTING JUST TASTED LIKE POWDERED SUGAR WITH AN EXTREMELY LIGHT HINT OF LEMON- I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED BUT I KNOW IF I WANT A GOOD ONE- PRACTICE WILL ONLY LEAD TO OTHER DISCOVERIES. = KEEP ON BAKING FOLKS- DON'T LET ONE FLOP OF A CAKE STOP YOU!
