Yes, it IS a "Southern Thing". Brought Back So Many Memories! I grew up eating this every summer of my childhood. We used fresh tomatoes from our garden. We made it exactly this way. I like a lot of fresh cracked black pepper on mine. Thanks for the memoris.

I didn't have vidalia onion so i just used yellow onion. I also added cubed medium firm tofu and used bottle spicy italian dressing and gave it a toss. Yummmmmy!!! Thanks for the idea. Great for a hot day here in paradise. Live you and your show Paula. Mahalo y'all. Lol

I'm so sorry to have to give this only two stars, especially when everyone else loves it...but I thought this recipe was very ho-hum. I doubled the dressing ingredients, and even that didn't begin to properly season the vegetables. I'm not from the South, so I don't have all these wonderful childhood memories of this at church picnics, etc....so maybe this Yankee girl just doesn't get it. Sorry Paula & Aunt Peggy!

Here's a tip: instead of using apple cider vinegar try using sweet pickle juice and mayonaise for the dressing. Mmmmmm......

AWESOME SALAD!!!!! I used balsamic vinegar infused with pomegranate instead of cider vinegar and toasted pine nuts. I served this over arugula. So many variations - just love it.
