I have used this "creation" myself at Christmas...haven't used an apple, but will throw one in next time! I do create gift bags at Christmas with an orange, lemon, cloves, bay leaf, & cinnamon sticks...you can easily find the little celaphan (sp? decorative bags...put all ingredients in...attach directions. It's a simple gift idea! And who wouldn't like to make their home smell nice!

I love your show Paula, I recorded this one to share it with my family. I didn't have any oranges on hand but did have orange extract. It worked out great. Thank you for another timeless recipe. Your the BEST!!!!!

This sounds like a great way to use up some leftover citrus fruits from other recipes. Since my sister loves to burn candles, I think it would be nice to use this method at times for variety. As for the previous reviewer, I cannot believe you actually tried to drink this!! It's POTPOURRI, which is meant to be a scent NOT a drink!!! Moron.

I read the comments before I did this. So this is what I did. I used an egg poacher pot, I also put the range exhaust was on so it seemed to spread the steam out of the kitchen. My husband could smell it when he walked in. We left later on that day and came back with in 2 hours and the house still smelled very nicely. The cloves I found were the strongest smell out of all the ingredients.

I tried this in a crock pot but it wasn't that great, so I transfered all the mixture into a small pot and simmered it over the stove. Much more scentifull this way. It was fun to make and smell all the ingredience come together.

I was soo excited to make home-made potpourri, but was very disappointed
as we could not smell it at all, unless we were right on top of it.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
I read someone else's reply that it could be saved for days, so I am going to
turn the crock back on today and hope I get better results. How long can it be saved for?
Any helpful hints would be appreciated, I really want my house to smell wonderful with this!
    Thanks in advance :
    Kelly

I've been doing this for years only I simmer it on the stove and I also add vanilla and nutmeg to it. I love the way the whole house smells. I was so excited to see Paula does the same thing (only in the crockpot.
