I have used this recipe for the past few years on Christmas morning. I put it together on Christmas Eve day, go about my business, and bake it Christmas morning while we have coffee and open gifts. My family looks forward to it now. I have also tweaked this. I use panattone bread, skip the nuts and, sorry Paula, cut down on the butter. I use real maple syrup and that's makes it sweet enough and very filling. I serve it with breakfast sausage and everyone is able to wait for a late afternoon dinner!

I've been making this recipe for a few years in a row and my family always asks if I'll be bringing this dish in anticipation! I was so upset when I couldn't find my recipe card and was worried I wouldn't be able to find it again, but I was pleasantly surprised to now find a photo, video and yummy raspberry sauce to go with it! After a few years of making it, I've tweaked a little. We have a large family of 20 or so for brunch, so I squeeze extra bread and overlap them lengthwise instead to get 4 rows, and I use less egg mixture so the french bread crust gets nice and carmelized, There's never a slice left over, great recipe!

We have this almost every Christmas morning. It makes the beginning of the day so much more enjoyable as it's assembled the night before and cooks itself while we open our gifts. I don't make the praline topping however. I just mix together some brown sugar, cinnamon and some raisins and sprinkle it over the top before baking. I make Emeril's apple compote to have with it. Delicious!

For the last three years I have prepared this casserole christmas eve and transported to my daughters Christmas morning for our annual Christmas Breakfast via Paula Dean.
I have made it with French & Italian Breads but the best was with Panatoni Bread. Paula you rock

I find excuses to have a brunch party just to make this recipe! And everyone always wants it. You can't eat it every day, or even every week, but it sure worth a few extra hours of exercise!

I was really looking forward to this casserole on Thanksgiving morning and what I ended up with was greasy eggs with nuts and bread somewhere in the mix. It also didn't find it to be sweet at all. I won't give up on it yet...I'll have to do some tweaking- reduce the amount of eggs, reduce the butter in the topping, and add more sugar or cinnamon to the actual batter to enhance the flavor of it.

I made this breakfast casserole the first time for family that was home for Thanksgiving. I am always nervous about trying new recipes on guests but this one was a definite HIT! Some people topped theirs with butter and syrup, others just used syrup, but I preferred mine just plain. I have to say I liked the leftovers a little better than right out of the oven. It is like bread pudding the second day! YUMM!

Our family loved it. I incresed the cinnamon, decreased the nutmeg and reduced the butter to 1 stick in the topping and the corn syrup to 1 Tbsp. Everyone loved it and it was not soggy even though we needed to cook it for longer than the 45 min. Everything else exactly as recipe!

If you're from the midwest, you'll LOVE this yummy stuff! If you do the praline topping, it's kind of pricey to make, but SO good. Easy to make, too!

This recipe is one of my favorites. I love the fact that I am not in the kitchen for hours in the morning fixing this. Putting together the major part of this recipe the night before is wonderful. Whenever we have company, they now request that I make it. I found it was very easy and I have made it many, many times (alot during the holidays and it is always a hit. I follow the recipe everytime and I have never had it come out "soggy" Thank you Paula, this is one of your best................
