The only problem here is that you can't give more than 5 stars for this recipe. I have been making this for Christmas morning and everyone loves it! And, I make it the night before, so I just pop in the oven and enjoy the morning with my family! Another Paula homerun!

The topping got nice, caramelized and toasty browned on top. The family loved it! But with so much sugar on top, the thought of adding syrup seemed ridiculous. Next time I would probably half the praline topping.

I found this was way too much butter and way way too sweet. With modifications it would be yummy!

4 since I made a couple changes. Nutmeg is a strong spice and while I like it to compliment other spices it is easy for it to overpower them/ I am not a fan of large amounts of nutmeg...just not a favorite spice for me....so I cut the nutmeg in half and doubled the cinnammon/personal spice preferance. And 2 sticks for butter for 6 to 8 servings is just way the heck too much butter for a topping on top of all the eggs and cream in the casserole/is a heart attack on a plate so I made half the sauce. I gave initially it a 4 but my daughter did not like it/gave it a 3 for her....she didn't like the consistency: said it didn't taste cooked through....and I left it in longer than indicated already.

Excellent recipe, and great because it's mostly made ahead of time. For Christmas day brunch I served this along side of Paula's Lady's Scrambled Eggs. Two major hits.

I made this for a brunch we hosted and it was a hit! I chose to substitute challah bread for the french bread, something i always do for french toast, which made it a bit lighter and fluffier (a number of people who have had the dish before commented and loved this change. I also substituted the corn syrup with a sugar and water combo per this recipe at tasteofhomedotcom (For each cup of light corn syrup in a recipe, substitute 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup water. Definitely planning on making this again!
