This recipe is very sweet and comes out almost like pecan sticky buns.
First of all make sure you use very stale French bread if you are going to soak the bread overnight in the custard. I used fresh bread so I lightly toasted the bread and then soaked the bread in the custard for only two hours. I did not use 8 eggs, only 5 and that was fine. The bread will quickly sop up the custard so don't be alarmed. Also, one stick of butter for the pecan syrup spread is plenty and I used maple syrup instead of corn syrup - this is French Toast no? Anyway, very good and yes very sweet. Good for a special occasion or if you are in the mood for sticky buns.

I've made this many times for brunch for friends, and it's always a hit! Small suggestion -- place a cookie sheet on the oven rack below the casserole to catch any of the sugar or custard that might boil over.

We had this for breakfast on Christmas morning and it was a big hit. This is a must try! Great with bacon and sausage on the side. As always...Paula has another winner! PS you won't need the syrup.

This was excellent! So good we didnt even use any syrup. I love to make it when I have guests comnig for breakfast because all you have to do is get up, mix up the topping, and throw it in the oven. Easy, easy, easy. Good, good, good!

Excellent recipe. Only thing I would do different is use a deeper baking dish. Mine ran all over the oven...but it was worth it!!

Breakfast or maybe even dinner will never be the same. I halved this recipe since only my husband and I were having it. It was out of this world. Did marinate over night. We didn't need the maple syrup, as the taste was in it. Thought it would really but sweet but it wasn't. As usual, Paula has done it again.
