  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons House Seasoning, recipe follows
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 small bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 8 ounces uncooked angel hair pasta
  • 1 cup grated cheddar
  • 1 cup grated Monterey Jack
  • House Seasoning:
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup black pepper
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a stockpot, combine the tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, onions, peppers, garlic, parsley, seasoning mixtures, sugar, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil over high heat, and then reduce the heat and let simmer, covered, for 1 hour. Crumble the ground beef in a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until fully cooked, with no pink color remaining. Drain the fat from the meat, and then add the ground beef to the stockpot. Simmer for 20 more minutes. Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Cover the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch pan with sauce. Add a layer of pasta and then a little less than 1/2 of each cheese; repeat the layers, ending with the sauce. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Top the casserole with the remaining cheese, return it to the oven, and continue to cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5 more minutes. Cut into squares before serving.

Delicious! Kid & Picky-Eaters friendly! I tweaked it a bit as I always add more meat for my men - used 2 lbs. Also added a little more tomato sauce to make the sauce juicy enough considering extra meat. I use Barilla plus angel hair pasta. Healthy, and stands up just a bit sturdier than regular to the extra cooking. No one will notice- try it! Don't forget to remove the bay leaves. I have frozen this several times, successfully. I have also divided it in half and used 8 X 8 pans successfully. Thaw before cooking, or, of course, cook it a longer. The time given assumes it's hot when it goes in the oven. I added a bit more cheese on top to make it look great! Served with a salad, but there are enuf veggies in it stands alone as a balanced dish. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This has become one of my wife's favorite meals. The combination of spices that simmer for an hour turns into one of the best flavors for spaghetti we've ever had. It's even better as leftovers, so cooking for two just means we get to eat it that much longer. It takes a while to cook from start to finish, but the effort isn't that much since it's mostly waiting while the cooking happens. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love this recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I hope this helps someone else who’s an inexperienced cook. Watch the video before you make this! She uses YELLOW onions, ITALIAN parsley, REGULAR spaghetti & SHARP cheddar. She first sautés the onions, peppers & garlic. I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to cooking so I followed the written recipe exactly. There was a certain flavor in it that I just didn't like & I think it was the Italian seasoning. I liked everything else enough that I'll try making it again according to the video & leaving out the Italian seasoning. I used curly leaf parsley & medium cheddar. I wasn’t sure what size bay leaf was considered small; I read that bay leaves range in size from 2.5-7.5 cm in length and 1.6-2.5 cm in width, so I used leaves that were at the smaller end of that scale. I used fresh bay leaves (Laurus nobilis, not Umbellularia californica), but I think I was supposed to use dried. *REMOVE BAY LEAVES BEFORE SERVING*. I will definitely re-review this after I re-make it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was one of the BEST recipes I have ever made! I added an extra cup of tom sauce and diced tom. I also used 1 pound italain sausage and 1 pound ground beef. PERFECT!!!!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Probably my most favorite baked spaghetti recipe ever item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pasta was amaaaaaaazing! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This pasta was amaaaaaaazing! I followed the directions to the dot, and everything turned out awesome. I did substitute a couple things in. For example, instead of tomatoes, I used pop tarts. Also, I felt that the tomato sauce was too thick, so I used chocolate syrup. Marshmallow's were a good alternative to beef. All in all, it turned out better than I expected. 10/10 with my recommendations. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Not easy preparation in my opinion but very tasty. Ive made this several times and have had nothing but complements! Very good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious! The sauce for this dish could be used with many other Italian recipes. I followed the recipe exactly for this. The only change I may try next time would be to only use 1 teaspoon of sugar. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Probably my most favorite baked spaghetti recipe ever! My hubby and my kiddos LOVE it too! :) item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is my new favorite spaghetti recipe! My family ate this as spaghetti- we didn't add cheese and bake it, just added it to mostaccioli noodles with home made garlic bread on the side. We all LOVED it! I followed the recipe exactly, except the house seasoning- I didn't measure it at all, I just added the 3 ingredients to taste. YUM! I was on the prowl for an amazing spaghetti sauce, and I found it here! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I found this recipe to be bland..unspectacular. We had to add salt and ground black pepper. I followed the recipe to a tee. If I were to make it again, I would substitute the cheeses with Parmesan and possibly fontina. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I served this at a luncheon for my knitting group. Now everyone is making it! It is so good. I think it's partly the angel hair pasta and partly the cheese that makes this a really popular dish. Thank you, Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this on Sunday..it was delicious. I modified the recipe a bit & cut the recipe in half made since i'm only feeding my husband & I. I seasoned & browned the meat first, then set aside. In the same pan, I sauteed onions & garlic & added red pepper chili flakes. Then I added a jar of Bertolli Basil, Olive Oil & Garlic spaghetti sauce since I didn't have any canned tomatoes. To the sauce, I added a bit more dried oregano, garlic powder, some tomato sauce & s&p to taste. Then I simmered for 10-15 minutes to marry the ingredients. After, I added the meat back into the pan & simmered for another 5 mins, then assembled. It was delicious & fed my husband & I for 3 nights! It was even better as leftovers. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious. My family loved it. Even my 3 and 7 year old grandsons who normally are very picky eaters. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was very good! Long process but worth it. I used the suggestion of sauteing the onion, garlic, and green pepper in olive oil first. I did add 1 tsp. cayenne pepper as others suggestion but it was way too hot for me. Will use red pepper flakes next time. Will make again! item not reviewed by moderator and published
AMAZING! It makes ALOT. My husband and I ate the whole pan for a week! I did cut back a little on the salt. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I'm thoroughly surprised that this recipe doesn't require any butter. I thought she would sneak it in. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this dish for a crowd and was so happy that I did. The kids loved it and went back for second helpings. I loved it too! I will definitely use this recipe again if I need to feed a large gathering of people. item not reviewed by moderator and published
very good. used a little pork also. loved the leftovers. thanks paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love it. I bet any amount of money that the one-star review by Zachman88 is because they used ALL of the "HOUSE SEASONING," instead of just 1-1/2 TEASPOONS of it! Try it with the right amount of the house seasoning, not the whole "1 cup of salt, 1/4 cup of black pepper, and 1/4 cup garlic powder!" This is delicious! I used Italian blend cheese instead of cheddar and monterrey jack. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was god awful. Sauce was runny, too salty - I threw away the leftovers - no one in my family liked it at all. I do not know how all these people gave it 5 stars. It was so bad I actually finally signed up to warn people away from this disaster. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Super easy! Even my "non-spaghetti" eater went back for seconds. I was looking for an easy recipe to use for a summer family reunion, and I just found it!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
my picky fellas went back for THIRDS! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is absolutely the best baked spaghetti I've ever eaten. I believe that Paula is an inspiration to single mothers everywhere. I think that Food Network made an unwise decision to let Ms. Deen go. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made Paula's recipe this past weekend...doubled everything as I was having a large crowd....it is the best Baked Spaghetti EVER!!! Love Paula Deen...so sorry I won't be a member of Foodnetwork community anymore....I have to lend my support to Paula!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely amazing - a crowd pleaser for sure! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is definitely worth the preparation. I went to the store and they did not carry Paula Deen's Seasoning, so I used Cumen instead. It was DELICIOUS! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is really good and easy. I had a bag of frozen meatballs from Costco and just put them in the sauce while it simmered. Very good weeknight meal. Half the recipe easily serves family of 4. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This dish came out pretty good. I just mixed everything together at the end, baked it and then topped with cheese. Had a little trouble finding one of my bay leaves but found it towards the end. Great dish. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It turned out great...i substituted the Monterrey jack cheese for parmesian/cheddar cheese...and didnt add bay leaves...extra sugar ; item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is very good. I don't like diced tomatoes from a jar so I blended them first and the recipe turned out just fine. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was looking for a quick recipe for ground beef since I knew that's what I had in the freezer and came across this. I was a little skeptical about the cheddar cheese with spaghetti but all the reviews convinced me to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. It took longer than I was looking for in a recipe since I made it after I came home from work. But it really was good and everyone in the house enjoyed it. I used colby cheddar cheese along with the cheddar and it was a nice mild taste of cheeses. I will definately make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a great recipe - I have made it 3 times and each time it is better then the first time. Everybody liked it. I look forward to making it again soon. Paula Deen has great recipes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love this recipe but change it a little.I use Barilla cut spaghetti. After you drain the pasta add Ricotta cheese, mix in the sauce and add to 13x9 casserole and top with mozzarella cheese and bake until cheese is melted .I call it spaghetti Lasagna. item not reviewed by moderator and published
very delish! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was superb...as is anything that Mrs. Paula makes...even better the next day! I did not have angel hair pasta used fettuccine, turned out soo good item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this last night for my girlfriend and parents. Everyone loved it. I was surprised by how easy it was to make and it was sure nice to have a recipe where I already had all the ingredients, except for the fresh parsley. Parsley flakes and minced garlic from a jar were just fine, I cut back a little on the salt. I have made baked spaghetti several times, but this will be my go to recipe from now on. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very easy to follow and so tasty that my daughter eat it all! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my husband yesterday and he loved it. It is perfect if you have left over pasta noodles from the day before. There is a lot of flavor in this dish. He mentioned this recipe reminded him of his grandmother's goulash recipe she made for him growing up. Definitely a keeper. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I found this recipe and made it tonight because my husband requested baked spaghetti. It's fabulous. I DO NOT want to know how many calories are in each cheese filled serving! Ha! So, I can't have it too often because I am "watching my figure" but this is something I'll make again especially the night before my husband competes in a triathlon. Yes - I know I could use whole wheat pasta and low fat cheese but really, what fun would that be? Next time I will saute the onions and garlic like Paula does in her video. Also, I will use fresh tomatoes as soon as they are in season again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
As mostly everyone else has said, this recipe is fantastic just as is. The video does differ slightly from the printed recipe, and I would highly recommend sauteing the onions, green pepper and garlic first, as Paula does in the video, and then add the tomatoes and the tomato sauce and seasonings. It does make a difference. The flavor of the sauce is excellent; however, I will omit the italian seasoning next time because it seemed a bit overpowering. Also, I cut back on the amount of seasoned salt based on other reviews. Great recipe which can be altered to suit anyone's tastes! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I am in the process of making this -8 oz. of pasta for 10 servings! What am I missing? Also the Barilla whole wheat Angel hair is in a 13 oz box. I noticed it when I was boiling the pasta 1/2 of the box seemed very small. The sauce smells delicious. Doesn't seem enough sauce for many layers. Also, remove Bay leaves!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
A HUGE hit with the whole family. I made it with gluten-free angel hair, and it was perfect. Well balanced flavor, and a gigantic kid-friendly, hubby-pleasing meal. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This a fantastic recipe. This is the first time I cooked it and it was greatly accepted by the family. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious and easy. I left out the green pepper and used diced tomatoes with green chilies for a little zing. item not reviewed by moderator and published
What a great go-to recipe. Even better the second day. Easily adaptable to adding veggies, different meats, cheeses. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is my go to recipe for all get togethers. My son requests this every time he comes home from college. If there is any leftovers they go with him. I use thin spaghetti and double the cheese on top. Delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made a version of this for over twenty years. It is kind of a go to recipe. By habit I make gallons of sauce and freeze it. I take out some sauce, mix in come cooked pasta and that can vary by what is in the pantry. I prefer Italian Cheese but have even used Mexican blend. Bake it until the chees melts. Make some garlic bread and salad and I am good to go. I have made this in quantities limeited only by the size of my pans and oven. Sometimes I mix in Italian Sausage to the sauce. Now that the kids are grown the quantity is smaller and sometimes make dinner for two with a leftover lunch. No matter enjoy the recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this last night...and man was this good- of course it was look who gave it to us!! Only thing I changed was I used Philadelphia cream cheese shredded cheddar and monterey jack cheese. And I rinsed the angel hair pasta after it was cooked with cold water so it wouldn't be sticky... It was alittle time consuming but well worth it!!! Thanks Paula Dean item not reviewed by moderator and published
One of my FAVORITE recipes by Paula. Made it on numerous occasions and it's even better as leftovers during lunch at work the next day (nukes up perfectly. I use store bought sauce rather than making my own which cuts the prep time down substantially and perfect for a weeknight supper. Try substituting a cheese with jalapenos for the monterey or cheddar cheese ~ it adds a little more "personality" to the dish. LOVE this recipe and highly recommend it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great family dinner! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just made this recipe a few nights ago. Very good, easy and the kids absolutely love it! Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just made this recipe as stated...only I added a little more cheese to the top. My husband loves this dish and it's been a great dish for leftovers. What I like about this is that my husband is not a big pasta fan...but, he eats huge portions of it. That's when I know it's good! Thank you Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Really tasty and not difficult to prepare. I don't use all ground chuck, but use half ground chuck and half ground sausage. I also use red pepper to give it a bit of a kick. I've made this allot and alwyas get compliments on it. Even my nine year old son, who won't eat anything, eats it :. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Tasty...I added some cayenne pepper to add more zip. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a favorite around our house. I doubled the cheese and used thin or angel hair pasta. So good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely awesome recipe! I replaced beef with ground turkey. No garlic. Was easy and great for leftovers. Can't waiting to make for a bigger crowd. Thank you Paula Deen! item not reviewed by moderator and published

This was delicious! Am having leftovers tonight.! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Am in the process of making this dish exactly as it is written. It smells delicious. Wanted to point out one thing I noticed. No where does it say to remove the bay leaves before eating. Think that beginner cooks should be made aware to take them out. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is excellant!! This has become a family favorite and is very easy to prepare for a crowd. When my kids make a request for a special dinner it is always Baked Spaghetti! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My 6 year old, who is a picky eater, requested this so I am making it for the third time in two months this weekend. It is delish! item not reviewed by moderator and published

Impressive! I dropped the green peppers (I hate them and added fresh basil, a little feta cheese and split the meat between Italian sausage and ground beef. I could have eaten the whole pan. Awesome! item not reviewed by moderator and published
super yummy! Paula Deen's recipes are always a hit in our home! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a repeat recipe for our family! The first time I made it I did not have green peppers so I omitted them and it still turned out great. Truly a great recipe with great flavor! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made this several times, each time it is delicious! The only changes I made was I used turkey & whole grain noodles. item not reviewed by moderator and published
WOW!! My family loved this. My 14 year old son is so picky and yet he even loved this..Thanks Paula.. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I love this receipe and have made it many times. It is truly delicious and flavorful and really saves well in the freezer for meals for a later date as well. item not reviewed by moderator and published
5 stars! Completely blown away by the flavor. I couldn't find bay leaves, so I didn't use that, and my mom hates garlic so I substituted the garlic cloves for garlic salt (which dissolves Just for flavor, I added a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Loved the smokey flavor the sauce provides. Also, if you want to be able to cut the spaghetti into squares, leave it in for an additional five mins! So it gets a little crunchy at the top...Enjoy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
When I saw how many people had reviewed this recipe I decided that I had to make it also. Yes, it tasted good, but in my opinion this recipe was definitely not worth the 2 hours needed to prepare it. My husband and teenage sons could not understand why they had to wait so long for a spaghetti dinner. :-( item not reviewed by moderator and published
This dish is so good. You can substitute ground turkey and whole wheat pasta and it's still delicious. If I could tolerate tomatoes better I'd make this once a week! It's nice to add extra veggies, carrots and additional bell peppers. If making for picky eaters, puree sauce with veggies and make a separate casserole for them! Thanks Paula. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Baked Spaghetti night was a hit. Our picky eaters loved this dish. Served it with salad and Pillsbury french bread. It was very easy to make and very delicious. I added a dash of Cayenne pepper and some chopped white mushrooms to the sauce and it tasted great. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Made this as stated in recipe - didn't change a thing. Total hit! The sauce made it - and if anything I added a little more cheese between the layers. Great dish to share - I packed it and took to a friend's house with a salad and Ina Garten's Cheese Straw recipe (killer recipe as well! PERFECT!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was an excellent recipe. The sauce had a delicious slow cooked flavor. I did reduce the salt by about a tablespoon and I increased the cheese by about a cup. Next time I make this, I did make more spaghetti, because I didn't think 8 oz was quite enough. Otherwise, it was delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very good. Tasted like a mix between spaghetti and lasagna. Will definately make this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I noticed that the written recipe was a bit different from the video. So I went with the video. I used all the ingredients, just as listed except that I doubled everything for a larger crowd and used a 15x12 pan. The crowd loved it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
My family loves this! item not reviewed by moderator and published
my son who doesnt like italian food just came to me (as I was trying to put away the leftovers and took the last of it and said..."that was about the best meal you have ever made" Guess that says it all = item not reviewed by moderator and published
I used alot of short cuts; just came home from work and I am not running to the store in this cold weather!! I just used what I had in the fridge and cabinet. Anyway I used spaghetti sauce, thin spaghetti, mozzarella cheese, hot italian sausage, and cheddar cheese. It taste DELICIOUS!! I will definetly make it again!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My family loved this recipe! It is very easy to make, and leaves you with left overs to enjoy the following day! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was great! Even my picky husband loved it. The only thing I might change would be to add a little more meat next time. item not reviewed by moderator and published
The recipe came out great, i was rushing so i ended up cooking the pasta first and then put it in the oven to melt the cheese. When the sauce was done i added a little heavy cream to give it the last kick. Would def. make this again. thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Excellent baked spaghetti!! Not dry at all! We did add sub mozzerella cheese in for Monterey jack & it melted perfectly! Angel hair pasta didn't over power dish as well! Will add to the collection of excellent Paula dishes! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Excellent dish! Used way more cheese than what it calls for, but we love cheese here. item not reviewed by moderator and published
"Everyone loved it including picky 5 yo. I subbed Italian sausage for hamburger and added mushrooms and a few fresh herbs I had in fridge. " Will use less salt next time. Slightly salty. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was a very easy and delicious dish. The hubby and both kids, even my very picky 10yr old, all loved it. I will definitely make it again and will experiment with other cheeses and sausage with the ground beef. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this tonight after seeing it in food network magazine. WOW! I added garlic cheese sausage to change it up a bit. I am looking forward to Bobby's lower fat version to do my own food network challenge. Although my husband gave it a "10" and does not want me to change it at all! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Yum! I just made this for our family and all but one square was gone by the end of dinner. Even my picky 3-year-old asked for seconds. I was quick to make the leftovers for lunch the next day and it tasted even better after sitting in the fridge overnight. It does take a while, but at least you don't have to babysit it for the full 2+ hours. One note - I got distracted and didn't read the layering directions properly and ended with the cheese over the noodles. Once I realized my mistake, I just threw some tinfoil over the top (tented it so the cheese wouldn't stick and it turned out just fine. I think the cheese saved the noodles from getting crispy. It also added a really yummy cheesy/noodley topping to it. I guess it's good to make mistakes sometimes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
The dish is delicious. I do add extra sauce and pasta. I also use Pepper Jack cheese with Jalepanos. Everybody loves it! item not reviewed by moderator and published

I'm an experienced enough cook to be able to tell this recipe will be a hit as is. To ruin it, you may have left something out, missed a step or overdid something. I always start a seasoned ground beef dish by sautéing my onion first, then only cooking garlic for 30 seconds or so - then add your meat & layer your seasonings. If you're sensitive to salt buy canned tomato products that say "no salt added" & season conservatively, TASTING after each addition. Good luck. item not reviewed by moderator and published
