This is the first time I made it and it was a hit with everyone at my in-laws. I agree you have to beat the butter sugar and egg for a while until it is fluffy. This is an awesome recipe.

It sounds like some of you think it tastes like greasy butter and sugar...or whatever. Well, I don't think you followed her instructions very well. It's very important to beat the butter, sugar, and egg mixture for quite a while, until it's"fluffy". This takes more time than what it shows on TV. The color then, is lighter, and the texture is light and "fluffy". Also you need a cool bowl and beaters, and the butter should be room temp, but not warm. If you're good about having a healthy diet, then this isn't for you. This is a rich, yummy DESSERT! I've been making it for years and everyone, I mean EVERYONE loves this recipe. I personally have always used Nilla Wafer crumbs with the melted butter for the crust, and I don't bake it, just press it down in the dish. It's not a hard crust this way. On the top of the fresh whipped cream I use a spatual to make peaks and decorate with sliced strawberries. To each their own. Oh....and if you have ever eaten "ice cream", then I don't think you have to worry about the eggs not being cooked. Luv your recipes Paula! Mm mm!

I too had rave reviews about this. I added hot fudge topping when I served each slice--like a real banana split.

I have never received anything but compliments and rave reviews for this recipe and I've made it far longer than Paula has been on TV. I was so excited to see her make it! I garnish with strawberry quarters though. All the years I've made this, I've never had a problem with the raw eggs. Quit worrying -- you eat ice cream, don't you?? That has raw eggs in it too!

I was concern about the uncooked eggs. When I saw that you were putting the whipped cream on it, I was thinking" but there are raw eggs in that...don't you have to cook it?? I have not made it yet...unless I'm told other wise, why it would be ok to eat it.
