Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup water, to thin sauce if necessary

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix together the beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce. Form this mixture into a loaf and place it in a shallow pan. Stir together the remaining tomato sauce, vinegar, sugar, mustard, Worcestershire and the water (if too thick). Pour this sauce over the meatloaf. Bake for 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes with the pan juices.

Cook's Note: Try serving as a sandwich with mayonnaise.

This meatloaf was excellent! and super easy! my husband requested meatloaf and I had never made one. There was a lot of pressure to do it right and let me tell you this came out excellent. I even substituted italian bread crumbs in the can for the fresh bread crumbs becasue thats all I had and the meatloaf was still awesome! My husband enjoyed it so much he didnt touch anything else on his plate and just ate second and third helpings of meatloaf.

Wonderful recipe! I'd agree with other reviews that this is not a typical "BBQ" sauce...but it is really good! I added a tsp of chipotle powder to the meat and it gave it a really nice subtle smoky heat.

Very Tasty!! I used ground buffalo and it was great! I'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce so I was pleasantly surprised by this. It didn't overpower the meat. I really enjoyed this meal! So did my husband.
