Paula dear...cream of mushroom soup? House seasoning = Salt, Pepper & Garlic?? That's it? Yeesh. I could find this recipe on the back of a Campbell's soup can. No doubt this is easy but c'mon you got more game that this, girl!

This has the "classic" stroganoff taste I was looking for! The only changes or additions I made were minor, so that I could use the ingredients I had on hand. I had a small chuck roast that I cut into 1" cubes; I used beef stock rather than broth, and I seasoned the meat to my taste (with salt, pepper and Tony Chachere's seasoning. I also added some red wine near the end of cooking, for my taste preference. Otherwise, I followed Paula's directions and the dish is fantastic!
Adjust the seasonings to suit your particular taste, but follow the steps given and you will have a wonderful and easy stroganoff dish!
As far as the salt issue goes, read the recipe again - the cup of salt is for the House Seasoning recipe, NOT for the stroganoff!

I made this for dinner tonight and it was quite good. I used prime rib roast (had a great piece hiding in the freezer so the meet was very tender even after 30 minutes of cooking. I also used lowfat Cream of Chicken and Lowfat SourCream to cut down the calories and it was still wonderful. I added 1/4 cup brandy and 2 teaspoons of paprika to kick up the flavor a bit. Didn't really feel like Stroganoff to me without the paprika!

I have never rated anything, cause I am lazy being a 25 yr old male...but this was really good and simple to make!
I liked it, as I have tried some other recipes to get rid of all the round steak (cube steak or whatever other cheap meat that is filling my deep freeze which my parents keep giving me every time we butcher. And I haven't really found one that I could actually eat, until now.
And for the guy who thought you used a cup of salt...are you serious?? Here is some simple math to make less (as it was 4 parts salt : 1 part pepper : 1 part garlic powder so that people don't get confused...I mixed 2 table spoons salt, 1/2 tbl pepper, and 1/2 tbl garlic powder.
I ended up using about 3/4 of the mix, but I also used more meat (4 steaks total not sure the weight but this worked out awesome.

Brian...you are just supposed to use the cup of salt to mix up a batch of house seasoning. You aren't supposed to put all of it in the recipe!

I adored this recipe! Definitely a good choice for the winter nights. The sour cream is necessary otherwise the base would just taste like gravy. I used fresh garlic and just a wee bit of salt and pepper. I also garnished with chopped chives. For the meat I used fajita strips-very tender. Yuuuuummmy!
