The sugar should be added to the liquid ingredients. Alton Brown said that on one of his episodes and he was correct. Too much baking powder. The liquid levels were a little short I thought. Added about 1/4 cup more milk. I need to look for Nigella's recipe and I wish I had kept her book. Hard to believe that this gets 3 stars. To each there own I guess. Should have read the reviews about the baking powder.

I made these muffins to the T. I've always loved Paula's recipes, and these turned out great. The only thing that I would change is putting the brown sugar on top, it didn't ruin them; just made it incredibly messy. My 5 year old loved them as did my husband. Will definitely make these again!

I made the muffins exactly how the recipe says... Terrible. I threw the whole batch out.

This recipe is beyond bad. The muffins were unappetizingly pale. They disintegrated when I tried to get them out of the pans. They tasted awful. After having one bite, I threw the whole batch into the trash.

I made this recipe yesterday. I did read the reviews before I baked. I only added 2 tsp. of baking powder and I added 1 cup of sugar. The muffins came out good. The kids loved them.

My family loved these muffins. Very moist and tender. My 5 year old grandson even took one to his teacher from the first batch we made where I followed the recipe exactly with the 2 tablespoons of baking powder. Much better with just 2 teaspoons of baking powder. This recipe is deffinatly a keeper for this family.

I added a smashed banana, 2 teaspoons of vanilla to the egg mixture and some cinnamon and they were great. I even added the 2 tablespoons of baking powder without realizing. It didn't seem to matter.

I thought these were delicious. I added more blueberries, about half a cup more. I could do without the sugar on top.

These muffins are gross, it wasn't batter, it was more like dough. They were tastless except for the tops. I think the typo of baking powder MAY help but doubtful. It seems to me they need real butter and more of it! I won't be trying this recipe again with any alterations. I wish I had read more than the first 3 reviews because I was very deceived by them. These muffins are awful as many people noted, they dot even make a good scone. :(

I agree with jag710 and all the rest before. I made the change to the amount of baking powder and they were not only awful muffins, but they weren't even good scones. Somebody notify Paula Deen! Meantime, I'll have to be leary of any of her recipes.
