Disappointed! I think because there's way too much baking powder. They were very bitter. This must be a typo or something. Are you sure its not supposed to be teaspoons instead of tablespoons?

I LOVE Paula, but these were definitely not sweet enough and salty, probably because of the baking powder.

I don't know why everyone was complaining, my muffins came out great! The tops rose beautiful and were nice and smooth unlike other muffins I've made that are lumpy on top. If you follow the directions (lightly beat the egg, don't mix it too much, etc, you'll be fine. Also, I heard somewhere that flour can go bad quickly so make sure it's fresh. I know at my house flour sits around for a long time, so I used new flour. The muffins were really moist and the sugar on top adds a lot. Yummy!

You can't change the recipe and then complain that it doesn't taste good/how you expected. I've made this recipe twice and am actually enjoying one of these muffins as I type this. I followed the recipe (yes, I used 2T of baking powder and I can honestly say that these are some of the best muffins I've ever eaten. They are incredibly moist and the texture reminds me of cake. They are sweet, but not stomachache-inducing sweet. I added an extra splash of milk because I never have whole milk on hand, only fat free, and I used dark brown sugar as the topping. I cook them for 10 minutes, add sugar, then another 10 minutes. I have a feeling that the commenters whose results seem odd to me (because mine turned out perfect both times probably changed the recipe and/or cooked the muffins for too long.

    Now, to get another muffin...

Wasted blueberries. Why didn't I read the comments first? No one in my house would eat them. Too much baking powder. The sugar on top is a disaster. Needs more sugar in the batter for sure. Sunday morning sadness in our house.

I was surprised by many of the comments...then I realized people wanted something really sweet. These are great - and I substitute:
-1 cup of whole wheat flour in place of 1 of the cups of all purpose flour
-1/4 cup of applesauce in place of 1/2 of the stick of butter (so I use both
They have turned out great every time and my picky 2 year old toddlers really like them!

I thought I could count on Paula Deen for muffins, so I made 2 dozen, and I sure wish I'd read the review first. They came out terribly bitter. Is 2 tbsp a typo, meant to be 2 tsp? What a waste of all the other good ingredients. And I agree with others who said the sugar didn't stick. I also suspect that interrupting the baking interfered with rising. They had started to rise beautifully, but then caved in after I took them out, so even with a truckload of baking powder, they were flat. Alton Brown, here I come.

I love this! I put 2 TSP of baking powder and I put 3/4 cup of sugar. I would suggest using baking cups so it's easy to take out after cooking. The batter is so yummy, I tried it before putting it in the oven. It kindda reminds me of Mochi., and I LOVE IT! Paula Deen, GOOD JOB! I love your stuff! Everytime I watch your shows, I just want to try whatever you're making because it really makes my mouth water. I definatley reccommend this! This is my first time making this yummy treat from scratch. To anyone reading, let's just say it's so easy a teenager can do it! Enjoy! Thanks Paula Deen!
