Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 large yellow onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked

Directions

In a Dutch oven, saute the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Break up the meat while sauteing. Spoon off any grease. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and saute until they are tender, about 5 minutes. Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, House Seasoning, and seasoned salt. Stir well. Place a lid on the pot and allow this to cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Add the elbow macaroni, stir well, return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 30 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the bay leaves, and allow the mixture to sit about 30 minutes more before serving.

Serve with garlic bread and a salad.

House Seasoning:

  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup pepper
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
  • Mix the ingredients together and store in an air-tight container for up to 6 months. Use as a seasoning on meat and when cooking vegetables.

    Very Good Dish!

I was so very leery after reading these reviews about the salt level so I just salteded it to my own taste. Choose to use... Worstechire sauce vs the soy and was very happy with the result. Made the macaroni seperately (therefore I did not add the 3c of water to the sauce) and added the mac at the end of a long simmer for the sauce. Add a dollop of fresh cool sour cream on top of each bowl and serve with garlic bread and a salad and you have a wonderful meal on your hands. I was pleasantly surprised that it did not taste like an italian mac so I will definitely make again! This does make a TON of food which works well since this is so left-over and freezer-friendly. REMEMBER: SALT TO YOUR OWN TASTE (easy if you've been cooking for more than 3 months) and this will be a regular in your rotation! Enjoy!!!Read more

    MMMMMMM Good

I just finished my third bowl......this is terrific and I was looking for this type of Goulash recipie that I could tune to... my taste buds. This is it..I did the following changes....1st put it in to a slow cooker for 4hrs and ohhhhhh yeah....place the macaroni in on the last 30 or 45 minutes.....2nd droped out the bay leaves and added whisterchire sauce aprrox 1 tablespoon and 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard....and 3rdly added a can of drain corn or forzen......then replaced the 3 cups of water with beef broth....and yes it made the diffrence...of wow... And then for the last adjustment one can of diced tomatoes wirh onion and green pepper slices,, then added one can of tomatoe paste...All of thise and it is one of those you are full and your spoon keeps going back for one bite out of the pot.....If you like this think of it with rotel and green chilies, fire roasted tomatoes,,,,and so on and so on.....This is one that you can dab and make it your own signature....Bon a petit.Read more

    Very Disappointed!

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I had very high hopes for this recipe but, I was very disappointed! It had nothing to do with it being too salty. In fact, I... thought it was rather bland. It just wasn't good! I couldn't get it t season well at all. I also think the tomatoe sauce is over whelming. Two 15 ounce cans may be too much. This is the first recipe of Paula's that I dislike and I will NOT be making it again!Read more

    Great!!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I just made this for dinner and everyone loved it including my step-grandson, who usually says he's sick to avoid eating... something he's never had before. At my home what I put on the table is what's for dinner so he's learning to try new things, and this was great! I didn't have house seasoning made up so I added a little of each ingredient that's called for in it, and I used fire roasted tomatoes and low sodium soy sauce. This will be regular on our table this winter. Read more

    Add a little sugar

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I thought this recipe was great! I didn't think it was too salty, but then again I always add the amount I want not exactly... what it says. I also add a little sugar to mine. Add a dollop of sour cream and some raw chopped onions on top and it is wonderful.Read more
