I just made this recipe and am enjoying it as I type! After reading some reviews that stated the dish was too salty I decided to make a few changes. I added 3 teaspoons of soy sauce instead of 3 tablespoons and I did not include any seasoning salt. It is absolutely perfect this way and I look forward to making it again and again.

My family really liked this. I changed the recipe a bit. I used crushed tomatoes instead of diced, I added 2 cans of cannelini beans, I added about 2T chopped fresh Italian parsley. I let the pot simmer several hours and made my macaroni separately. I served it by first scooping macaroni in the bowl, then topping with ghoulash. I did this because for leftovers, the macaroni can become mushy if microwaved. All in all, this was very good! Lots of flavor, and very filling.

This dish took a little too long and it looked great, but as soon as my husband and kids took one bite they all said the same thing - TOO MUCH SALT. My kids and husband pushed back thier plates and wouldn't eat it. I'll try it again without as much salt. I wish Paula would come up with an alternate recipe without so much salt.

My kids and I made this after reading all your reviews. Here is what we tried:
We used half the Italian seasoning, subbed in Worcestershire Sauce for the soy, and left out the last tablespoon of seasoned salt. I also subbed in one can of mild Rotel* for one of the cans of diced tomatoes-for kick.
It was great and the whole family loved it!

I just received a PD cookbook as a gift. I found this recipe in the book and it calls for a pound of ground turkey as well as the beef. Why the inconsistancy?? I found this recipe rather bland and salty. You can purchase the frozen entrees and it tastes the same - as long as you don't need enough to feed an army!

My husband did not like this recipe. It had a very distinct taste of bay leaf and was very salty. If you decide to try this recipe, but way back on the salt. The combination of the soy sauce, house seasoning and season salt is too much, and I love salt. I tried to give the rest to my sister to feed her family and when she tried it she also said it was too salty and her family wouldn't eat it. So, I had to feed it to the garbage disposal. I did love the idea that it was all in one pot though. I would not make this again. Sorry Paula!

This was the BEST goulash I have tasted in a long time. It's really close to my mother's recipe and was sorry I didn't get it before she passed away. So thank you Paula for bringing this back into my family!!
